After eight months and more than 15,000 COVID-19 tests, the Milpitas Fire Department Mobile Testing Unit is being redeployed to support local vaccination efforts. The Mobile Testing Unit's last day providing testing service to the public is today, Friday, January 22. A dozen Milpitas firefighters have been trained to administer vaccines and are now supporting Santa Clara County Public Health's vaccination efforts at the County Fairgrounds. Vaccination, combined with mask wear...ing and social distancing, is key to stopping the virus and returning the community to normal life as soon as possible. The City continues to partner with the County to ensure Milpitas residents have access to convenient testing. Anyone seeking a test can find more information via the County’s COVID-19 testing webpage, or by calling the City’s Social Services Hotline at (408) 586-3434. County testing will continue to be available in Milpitas at: Milpitas Community Center every Thursday and Saturday: https://lhi.care/covidtesting Milpitas Sports Center every first and third Friday: https://www.sccgov.org//covid19/Pages/covid19-testing.aspx

Is your child socially and emotionally ready for preschool or kindergarten? Learn how you can support your child's early development while keeping them home. The Family Resource Center in Milpitas, funded by First 5, is presenting an overview of the many free, virtual classes it offers for parents and young children under 5 years of age. The classes open to all income groups. This is a great presentation for anyone caring for young children, including grandparents and caregivers. http://ow.ly/g5FT30rrZOF

This morning the City of Milpitas raised the Native American Heritage Flag in Cesar Chavez Plaza. Although we couldn't gather together as we have in past years, we would like to virtually recognize the contributions of the original residents of this area and their descendants who still live here today. Learn more about the history and customs of our local tribe, the Muwekma Ohlone, here: http://muwekma.org/

Santa Clara County offers free pop-up COVID testing at the Milpitas Sports Center this Friday, October 30, 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Widespread testing provides a more accurate picture of how many cases exist in our community and helps us understand how and where the virus is spreading. Testing helps identify people without symptoms who could be spreading COVID-19, so that they can stay away from work and public places until their infectious period is over.
