Marketing ads spend so much time encouraging patients to brush their teeth more that you might be surprised to learn that it’s possible to brush your teeth too much. It’s certainly possible to brush them too hard. We call this overbrushing, and it can lead to enamel erosion and gum recession. If you are noticing problems with your gums or increased sensitivity, feel free to call our office for the best solution to resolve your issues.

We would like to thank all Veterans for their service in protecting our freedoms. It means a lot that you are willing to take the fight to other shores as opposed to waiting until they are on ours. Happy Veterans Day.

How is your sugar intake? Anywhere you see the word sugar, from coconut sugar to brown sugar, from powdered to coarse it’s all sugar. Another giveaway is the word "syrup". No matter the type of syrup, whether corn syrup, rice syrup or high fructose syrup, it’s still sugar that can have an acidic effect on your teeth. With sugars hiding in so many of our favorite foods, cutting down on sugar can be a difficult task, but it’s definitely worth it both for your overall health and your oral health. The recommendation from the American Heart Association is that women consume no more than 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day, and men 36 grams (9 teaspoons). Give us a call if you have concerns about your oral health and sugar intake.
