We Love Our Families They Love Their Midwives Too. The T-shirt Says So!

It’s been a really busy spring for us here at the Birtb Center this month and still have another few due before the end of May. Wanted to share a few new memories. As always, photos shared with permission.

To All Our Past, Present and Future Moms, and a Special Shout Out To All Our First Time Moms This Mothers Day. Have a wonderful day together.

Midwives are essential to the maternity service structure, yet in many places within the 50 states of the USA, midwives are not included in the ‘typical’ OB/labor unit settings. Restrictions by insurance companies in providing midwives with, rather than denying midwives, in network provider contracts, further restricts access to midwifery care. Midwives not only ‘catch’ babies, but they provide an enormous amount of education, counseling and preparation for birth, postpartum,... breastfeeding and GYN care. All the education shared with the families provides them with an enormous amount of knowledge that helps see them through those very challenging first few weeks. The below link, identifies how much midwives can contribute to saving lives. The USA needs to wake up, and implement midwifery led care into the ‘Standard of Care’ practice within main stream OB care!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I am thankful to my clients and their families, past and present. I adore you all and wish you all a safe, peaceful but enjoyable ...Thanksgiving. To my support team of plentiful. I thank you for your continued support and hard work. You are all appreciated dearly. I am thankful to OBHG for taking a risk on me, and offering me the opportunity to work as a Nurse Midwife, within the hospital setting, and to further extend my practice to having admitting privileges at Rancho Springs Hospital. With all the downside of 2020, this right here, has enriched my professional life and expanded my continued management of care to my clients, within the hospital setting, whether by choice or need for hospitalized care. The Pandemic may have changed our lifestyle for now, but it cannot change who we are and what we stand for. Please all have fun while staying safe. A very Happy Thanksgiving to all. Sharing a few memories that have enriched our lives.

EMERGENCY NEWS FLASH Within This Last Week We Have Had Confirmation From Both Blue Shield and Anthem Blue Cross that they DO INDEED, DISCRIMINATE against provider type. ... After having initially been told we would be eligible for an In Network agreement with them (To meet the needs of pregnant women who have their insurance plans) we have since been told by Blue Shield that "They DO NOT, CONTRACT WITH MIDWIVES". Anthem Blue Cross on the other hand, REFUSES to recognise the credentials of a Certified Nurse Midwife in California and will only credential a Licensed Midwife. They even refuse to allow us to provide antepartum and postpartum care with planned hospital birth. Again restricting practice and member choice/access to experienced and well trained professionals. This is considered discrimination against provider type. More importantly however, it restricts access to midwives for those who are bound to use these insurance companies through their employer plans. If you have any of these plans, know of anyone with such a plan and/or agree that this practice is unfair/unjust, please, please share, spread the word and lets make this news worthy! Nurse Midwives are entitled to be accepted into ALL medical insurance plans, and companies such as Blue Cross, Blue Shield should NOT be permitted to discriminate and/or to use 'cliche lines' that get them out of the practice breeches they clearly utilize so as not to be sued! Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

I attended a Spinning Babies class arranged by Rancho Springs Hospital in Murrieta. It was great to see Providers, management and nursing all working and learning together in the interest of best practice and patient well being. Of course due to the Pandemic nightmare, the group had to be small and distanced with sanitation stations around the room.... The class was exceptionally informative and well participated. One of my recent student midwives shared this with me yesterday. I got a scholarship to be at the Birth Institute and I submitted a photo of Britani and I wearing your T-shirts to be shown in the slide show. Yen Dahl... Felling proud. Recognition has been almost unheard of in my personal life. This year, while a record year for worldwide sadness, has actually been professionally exhilarating, satisfying and worth my fight! I have received so many accolades, much local community support and ultimately professional recognition by being granted admitting privileges in a hospital, where I have settled into my current role and now working towards expanding my private practice to offer those seeking midwifery care, but not wanting an out of hospital birth, the opportunity for me, the nurse midwife, to attend to their birth within the hospital. This is a major milestone. Thank you to everyone, clients, colleagues, students, faculty members, and family for all your hard work and support along the way. I am truly blessed.

Attending a Spinning Babies Class today. We talked and practiced a lot about ‘shaking the Apple Tree’ to help facilitate fetal rotation and descent. So I went to the ‘archive’ and found this beauty, to repost.... Fits the bill perfectly!!!
