A response to a simulated #vegetationfire by #MetroFire will occur tomorrow near the Rolling Wood HOA in #FairOaks, beginning at approximately 9:30 am. This readiness drill is part of our preparations for an already busy #CA fire season. Residents may see fire engines, helicopters, and command vehicles in the area but should not be concerned. If you believe there’s an actual fire during this time, please report it by calling 911.

Today at the new #MetroFire #Sta68 in #RanchoCordova, the early pieces of the metal support structure are going up. These pieces, along with other state of the art station designs, will allow the station to withstand the forces generated by winds and major earthquakes anticipated without catastrophic collapse. The station, once finished, will remain capable of providing essential services to the public even after a disaster. We look forward to the completion of the new station in Spring 2022.

Repost from Rancho Cordova PD - Today, we celebrated the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of a stained-glass mural, titled Hometown Heroes, at B & J Body Shop in Rancho Cordova in honor of the first responders in our city and our region. The mural was designed, hand-cut and installed by Rancho Cordova native, Robin Moyher, with support from the City of Rancho Cordova’s Community Enhancement Fund. Despite a global pandemic, the face masks, hand sanitizer and social di...stancing, 2020 had many silver linings as wellincluding the bravery and support of our very own hometown heroes, who continued to face the pandemic on the front lines every day, said Mayor Gatewood. The mural sits prominently at B & J Body Shop, located at 11000 Folsom Boulevard, between the Rancho Cordova PD and #MetroFire #66, along with Chamberlain College of Nursing which is just down the street. This mural is here to honor the men and women who put themselves at risk on a daily basis, said Robin. We are here today to say that we thank you, appreciate you and honor you. It is my hope that people will drive by the mural and that they too will feel that appreciation, she added. Thank you to those who put their lives on the line for us each day and everyone who helped us celebrate! A busy final day of #CShift at #Metro has had our #AllHazard resources throughout #Sacramento County displaying their skills: - A fast moving 110 acre #VegetationFire at #Mather was stopped by our #MetroAirOps and #MetroDozer while assisting ground resources before any structure damage occurred - #Rescue21 combined with #TR65 when a vehicle went down an embankment in #Orangevale during a #SpecialRescue incident ... - Our members in #Antelope held a bedroom to a single before it expanded to adjoining units We are proud to serve our region with not just the best equipment, but the highly skilled members who make protecting your life our #1 priority during every incident.

In recognition of #EMSWeek #Firefighter/Paramedics were recognized for their efforts the night of January 18, 2021 by the #EmergencyDepartment at Kaiser North Hospital. On that night, our medic crew responded to a shooting involving two Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Deputies. Unfortunately, #Sacramento lost Deputy Adam Gibson that night but another Deputy survived due to the coordination of pre-hospital care by our members and that of Kaiser and the UCDMC. #MetroFire is humbled at this recognition as it takes an entire team of #firstresponders; #oneteam including our fire family at the Sheriff’s Office, the Sacramento Fire Department, Kaiser, and UCDMC.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Adam Gibson was tragically lost in the line of duty on January 18, 2021. Despite our sadness for Deputy Gibson and his family, friends, and coworkers, #MetroFire was honored to have been invited to take part in today’s processional. Our local law enforcement personnel are more than just public safety partners who help us do our jobs; they become our friends, members of our families, and are the people #firefighters call when we need help. Thank you for your service to #Sacramento Adam. We will always remember you.

When #Santa needs help, a #Firefighter just might answer his call. During a pre-Christmas scouting mission in #RioLinda today he may have lost his way, but #MetroFire, Sacramento Fire Department, and SMUD saw to it that he was not long delayed. Without a scratch and still full of good cheer we made sure Jolly Old St. Nick will soon use his reindeer when he sees you later this year. ... #MerryChristmas and #HappyHolidays to all!

Hey you...that #ChristmasTree in the corner is at least a few weeks old now. Keep it watered and don’t be the subject of our next post. Dry trees burn hot and fast! #MetroFire hopes your holidays are happy, wishes you a #MerryChristmas, and more than ever a Happy #NewYear in 2021!

On December 1, 2000, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District was established when the American River Fire Protection District and the Sacramento County Fire Protection District combined to create the 7th largest fire agency in #California. 20 years later we celebrate our proud history, an innovative presence, and promising future. Today, we serve over 750,000 residents in the City of Rancho Cordova and City of Citrus Heights, unincorporated communities in Sacramento, and portions of Placer County. #MetroFire’s original vision to provide a coordinated approach remains our priority; delivering the best fire, #EMS, and special operations service delivery to those who live, work, and visit the #Sacramento Region.

Today we honor Donald G. Denker who was killed in the line of duty responding to an aircraft emergency while working as a firefighter at the Mather Air Base. On January 19, 1952 Donald Denker responded to an emergency incident involving a U.S. Air Force B-25 Bomber which crashed into the base stockade. Six individuals, including Donald Denker were killed during the incident and over 50 were injured. Due to incomplete historical records, we are asking for the community's invol...vement to help gather information regarding the life and death of Donald G. Denker. Today, on December 15, Metro Fire remembers the passing of Jim "Peet" Peterson who lost his life to job-related cancer. Peet is remembered by his friends, family, and fellow firefighters as a quiet, sneaky, compassionate, friendly, and hard working firefighter. When asked, Jim said even if he knew a career as a firefighter would lead to a cancer diagnosis, he wouldn't have changed a thing. While Jim was undergoing treatment for his job-related cancer, he was promoted to the p...osition of Fire Captain, but unfortunately he did not get an opportunity to sit in the captain's seat before his passing. Rest in peace, Peet. #LineOfDuty #LODD #cancerawareness #firefighter #MetroFire

Over the last week members of #MetroFire’s Foam Operations Team delivered copies of the recently updated emergency response plan for transporting and storage of hazardous materials. Funding for the report was funded by a Hazardous Materials Emergency Planning grant allowing Metro Fire to enhance our level of service to our local communities with minimal cost our residents. The report includes a risk assessment of local facilities and updating of Metro Fire’s deployment plan o...f the two foam units which respond from stations #sta31 and #sta114. With Metro Fire’s priority of service delivery, this updated and comprehensive report identifies the risk posed by these #hazmat in our community to our residents, businesses, and members. While also assisting our private industry partners in better preparing for incidents at their facilities and enhancing the efficiency to which we respond and work together to mitigate such incidents when they occur. As an #AllHazardsAllRisks agency, this public-private partnership improves the ability to which we can deploy our two foam units to better serve and protect our residents, our businesses, our environment, and our quality of life in the areas we serve. #industrialfirefighting
