Our fourth graders learned about tectonic plates and how their different movements create the landforms around us. In our model, the two graham crackers represent the Earth's plates, and the marshmallow cream underneath represents the magma beneath the Earth's surface. Students slid the crackers past each other to simulate what happens during an earthquake. Students then slid the crackers into each other, causing them to move upward, simulating how mountains are formed. Lastly, students slid the crackers away from each other, exposing the "magma", simulating how a volcano is formed.

The third graders have been busy this spring planting flowers to make our playground beautiful! We’ve also started exploring geometry, and are practicing our writing skills by composing daily paragraphs throughout the week. We also just completed our Weather and Climate STEMscopes unit and displayed our knowledge on our bulletin board in the hallway!
Hope to see you at our Open House on Saturday, May 1st. Please contact our admissions team at 855-722-8938 to set up an appointment.
Our third grade students are working on their research skills by completing a Let’s Go Camping! project. They are using area to map out their campgrounds and totaling the cost of all supplies for their trips. The students are also exploring natural selection in science by completing an activity to illustrate that mouth type can hinder animals in the wild by limiting the amount of food collected. They used chopsticks, straws, tweezers, and spoons as mouth types and gathered pinto beans in a given amount of time. The spoon mouthed animals had plenty of food at the end, whereas the chopstick mouthed creatures died out early because they could not gather enough food.
Merryhill Roseville participated in the American Heart Association fundraiser, Jump Rope for Heart, to raise donations to fight heart disease! Our school participates every year, but this year we raised a record $10,375.26! Out of all the schools participating, we fundraised the most in all of Sacramento and 11th in all of California! We are so proud of our students who participated in our jump rope competition in support of the fundraiser and want to thank all of the heart heroes who dedicated their time to fundraise for this great cause!
Last week in art class, students created unique abstract animals using collaborative collages, multi-mixed media, and bright unrealistic colors!

Our current fifth grade novel study is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. In the story, the main character Harry goes owl shopping in Diagon Alley for his pet owl to take to wizard school with him. The fifth graders also got to pick out their owl that they would be taking with them to Hogwarts! They wrote a short essay about the type of owl that they selected, what makes it special, and some fun facts about the particular type. Once their owls were selected, they proceeded to Hogwarts and were sorted into their Hogwarts house based on a personality quiz.
We're excited to be back to school! Here's a look at how we're starting off our year.

Sixth graders used science and engineering practices to explain how gravity is like a magnet! They developed and created models to describe the role of gravity in the motions within galaxies and the solar system. Students also researched and participated in circle discussions to enhance their results.
First grade students were so amazed at how easy it is to find the North Star! First, they read a book called How Can the Stars Help Us When We Get Lost? Afterward, students looked for the Big Dipper on the big screen and then drew an imaginary line up to the North Star. They followed up with a tracing activity! Next week, we will take a virtual tour on Expeditions Astronomy.
Friday marked our 9th Annual Fun Run! It was a perfect day to go outside and get some exercise. Our school is proud of our annual events and we have reinvented them with safety in mind. We are so happy to be back on campus and exercising together!
