The SBA will allow potential applicants to register and open up accounts to apply for revitalization grants starting April 30, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. EDT. Actual applications may be submitted starting Monday May 3, 2021, at noon EDT. The online application will remain open to any eligible establishment until all of the $25 billion of available funds is exhausted. For the first 21 days that the program is open, the SBA will prioritize funding applications from businesses owned and... controlled by women, veterans, and socially and economically disadvantaged individuals. However, all eligible applicants should submit applications as soon as the online application portal opens. Following the 21 days, all eligible applications will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis. The IRS has stated that they are behind in withdrawing funds for first quarter estimated tax and extension payments made through auto withdrawals on or around April 15. According to the IRS, this is not a tax software issue. It is the IRS who has been delayed in making the withdrawals from taxpayers’ accounts, and they are making the issue a priority. The problem is not just estimated taxes but all auto withdrawals made on or around April 15. According to the IRS, there will not be any penalties for these late withdrawals, and no action is required by the taxpayers.

In support of our never-ending tax season, the IRS and FTB just extended the due date for Butte County and several other counties to December 15th. This includes individual and business tax filers that had a valid extension to file their 2019 return due to run out on October 15, 2020. The December 15 deadline also applies to the third quarter estimated tax payment due on September 15. Some counties in Oregon have been granted a similar extension to Jan. 15, 2021.

California is halting unemployment claims for two weeks due to technology upgrades and overwhelming backlog. They say it won't affect benefit payments.
