Music is good for the mind, body, and soul! It can improve relaxation, decrease muscle tension, and reduce pain perception in patients. It was important to the team at Mercy General that patients with COVID-19 don't miss out on the benefits of therapeutic music and so the team found a way to safely bring melodies into their rooms. In this video, Mary Superak, Certified Music Practitioner at Mercy General Hospital, plays music for a COVID patient. Slide through the images to see Mary's point of view.

Today marks a moment for the history books. #COVID19 vaccine shipments are arriving for all of our six Greater Sacramento area Dignity Health hospitals. The long-awaited vaccine will be administered to our critical health care workers first. This is a huge step forward in the battle against COVID-19. It offers hope to our deserving front line workers who go above and beyond to keep us safe and healthy. We thank you again, our health care heroes, for remaining so strong in unprecedented times. Artist Madelyn Joan Templeton accepted the project of creating Dignity Health’s mural for Wide Open Walls which pays homage to those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. It allowed me to paint history on a mural, said Templeton. I wanted to remind people that health care workers are risking their lives to be there for our community. We love watching this mural come to life!

With the approval of a COVID-19 vaccine, this week represents a huge milestone in the fight against the virus. As we celebrate, we felt it was important to also take pause to honor those who have gotten us this far and who continue to do all they can to keep our community healthy and well. People like Emily Adorjan, carrying baby Norah, has showed up throughout her pregnancy and answered the call as a respiratory therapist to work with some of our most critically ill patients. Protected by PPE, she feels confident she can perform her critical role safely. She is one of many respiratory therapists, nurses, doctors, environmental services staff members, and many others who continue to show up every day for you, for us and for each other. Thank you for all you do. #hellohumankindness

Strokes don’t discriminate: 1 in 4 people worldwide will have one. But up to 80% of first strokes may be prevented. You can reduce your risk and improve brain function. And that’s even more important now, because some factors that put you at risk for stroke such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, smoking, and obesity increase your risk for complications from COVID-19. As we look to support our community's health and wellbeing outside of our hospital walls, it's partners like WEAVE, Inc. that are critical in that pursuit. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and due to the challenging living conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic violence numbers are on the rise. It's important to know the options that are available to you or a loved one if there is violence at home. Visit https://dignityhlth.org/2IZ5ZFp to learn more about available crisis intervention services, or contact their support line at 916-920-2952.
