Whew! Jackie and I moved up over 700 seedlings to four inch pots this week. The plants are now safe in each of our four green houses. In April we will be selling tomato and veggie plants on-line and in person. We strongly advise that customers wait until later in April to start their gardens, given the regular occurrence of last frost in the Meadow Vista area. Our organic plants will be 3.00 each.

Time for a Wendell Berry poem to ease the soul.

Meadow Vista Flower and Berry Farm 16.06.2020

Hello friends, Spring is here, and our thoughts are turning to the delights of gardening. These times are difficult, and hopefully we can add some enjoyment in preparing for your summer garden. Dealing with the shelter in place requirements Jackie and I are devising ways to make our tomato, pepper and perennial plants available without endangering one another. Additionally, we are concerned that our customers do not begin planting until the threat of a spring frost is dimi...nished. Here is the plan. We expect to offer tomato and pepper plants in late April or early May. We are concerned about offering them too soon, and they need time and warm weather to grow. For sales, we intend to take orders by phone (530-269-9786 or 530-878-3671), email ([email protected]) or our Facebook site called Meadow Vista Flower and Berry Farm (https://www.facebook.com/MeadowVistaFlowerAndBerryFarm/). Once we have your order, we will place your plants or jams in a box/bag and leave them on our table at the farm. Once you pick up your items, just drop a check in our little box on the table next to the plants. This approach should minimize contact with other folks as well as us. Needless to say, this approach is a bit sad since meeting with customers and creating a sense of community are wonderful benefits of our little market. Let’s hope that soon the future brings back such pleasures. Specifics: Our four inch tomato and pepper plants are $2.00 each. No sales tax, we pay it. The list will be published in a few weeks. The perennials in one gallon pots are $5.00 each. The list will be published in a few weeks. Potted Iris are also $5.00 each. The list will be published in a few weeks. Via email, we will be sending pictures and identifications of our Iris that are blooming in the garden. Each rhrizome is $4.00. Pickup in July or August. We can also prepare bouquets, and when prearrange for a pick-up. Bouquets will be $8.00 each. For example right now we have lilacs. Eight ounce jams prepared by Jackie from our fruit harvest, before virus, are be $7.00. An additional item will be Blue Bird houses, $20.00 and Mason Bee boxes, $10.00 At this stage we are still considering whether to offer honey. We will keep you posted on this item. The specific list will be published in a few weeks. See more

Jackie has prepared a variety of deer resistant plants to enhance any landscape. We will be open Saturday 9:00 to 4:00 to begin our short fall season. We will also be open two Saturdays in October. In addition to perennials we will featuring Shane Harris’ local, raw honey, Jackie’s newly canned jams and fresh bouquets.
