Alex Highiet established Modesto Junk Company in 1920. The original building, which is still located at 9th & ‘O’ streets, across from where the old Burge’s Drive-In was located, had a front row seat to all of the action from the American Graffiti glory days of Modesto. : @khofthe209 #modestohistory #stanislauscounty #100yrsold #recycledmaterials

The McHenry Museum & Historical Society mourns the death of the last star of the Golden Age of Hollywood, Dame Olivia de Havilland (July 1, 1916-July 25, 2020). One year later, and due to Covid 19, I’m still the President! I’ve had such an incredible board this year and want to thank my VP Don Scott, My Treasurer Michelle Gallagher, and my Secretary Benjamin Sivils, and of course it’s almost been one year since our Executive Director Athina Lacy Osmuss joined our team. We have some big ideas in the works, stay tuned. Thank you to the rest of the Board and all those who have helped, Channce Condit, Kandyce Maldonado-Drake, Cece Hudelson, Talitha Agan, Keith Highiet, John Griswold, Nancy Bancroft, Ken Bryant, Linda Cover, Ray Dias, Janice Lane, Suzanne Love, Joy Madison, Kenneth Hansen, and Doug Nutson. You all are amazing!

*Update from City of Modesto Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Department* Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Updates. We have made the difficult decision to postpone the opening of all in-person recreation programs, city pools, splash grounds, community centers, senior citizens center, McHenry Mansion, Museum and Modesto Centre Plaza as well as park and facility reservations and special events. This decision did not come lightly, ultimately our Department and City Leader...ship determined that due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in Stanislaus County, it is our responsibility to help slow the spread and keep our community safe. We will accept park and facility reservations for events after July 31, 2020. Parks, playgrounds, softball/baseball fields, sport courts are all open for members of the same households to use, but are closed for organized sports or reservations.

Like most of you, we are anxious for life to return to normal. We are eager to see stay-at-home orders lifted and businesses re-opened, yet we are also committed to doing what is best to keep the Coronavirus at bay to keep our friends, family and loved ones healthy. Stay strong Modesto! We are all in this together!
