Simi Valley Bees 16.07.2021

The Simi Valley City Council is proposing a new bee Ordinance that will only let the very wealthier home owners in Simi Valley to do Beekeeping. They want to limit Ordinance to a square foot lot of 10,000 square feet. Most home owners in Simi Valley have a home sitting on a 5,000 square lot. When I contacted their nuisance bee department, I found out The City of Los Angeles, which allows backyard beekeeping on a 5,000 foot square lot RARELY have an nuisance bee complaints ...Continue reading

City Councilman Elaine Lister has went above and beyond what has been required in helping get the Bee Ordinance to the City Council last night. She also was a ...huge advocate last night for the back yard beekeeper. I believe that she may have talked the City Council down to a reasonable fee price, but who knows! I want to express my gratitude for her efforts. Huge problem! The City Council is digging in their hills due to some unreasonable fear! Uneducated comments from the public of the ignorant and the irrational can easily reflect the level of hysteria that one can assess in the community when it comes bees. I heard a good one last night. BTW. And, I am not talking about people who are truly epi pen allergic either. Those people have my sympathy and real concern. My thoughts were the public is in denial about the reality of the situation. I tried to give a good talk on the already omni present feral bees aka Africanized bees, and how in LA County they rarely get complaints from their apiaries from nuisance bees. It's all from Africanized bees. It wasn't my best talk. Nerves and all that. But hopefully I got my message across. Here is the link to watch last nights video. https://www.simivalley.org/.../view.../city-council-meetings. They have continued the discussion until next meeting, but a lot of them want to have the ordinance at 10,000 square feet that a land owner who owns a home be able to do back yard beekeeping. There are some fancy exceptions and agriculture overlays, but you get my gist! But our hero, City Councilwoman Elaine Lister battled it out the best she could! Please next May 3rd circle your calendar. Make sure you email the clerk to be able to talk to the City Council BY 3:30 PM!!!!!!! The email address is [email protected]. i https://www.simivalley.org/.../view.../city-council-meetings Anyone want to go down and do a little signage with support for the bee community prior to the meeting? We would all socially distance and BEE Covid-19 Safe. Oh the bee pun jokes never get old. Something with the words The more you regulate land usage the less unregulated beekeepers will BEE! 5,000 SQ FT LOTS! Low fees for backyard beekeepers! Not $2,000! (BTW that was suggested by the City Planning Commission as a possible fee last night. It was knocked down by our heroine, Elaine Lister). Include All Backyard Bee Keepers in Simi Valley in the Bee Ordinance Please! Bee Inclusive of all Bee Keepers in the BEE Ordinance I will make a fun little event organization and post it. I have also been known to bring fun treats to events. I like doughnuts and cookies if anyone else wants to bring anything let me know. Since a lot of us may have Covid-19 shots by then it might be a semi safe gathering, but you all still need to please wear masks. See more

Once again we have so much to bee thankful for in our lives. #Give Thanks for a bountiful harvest this year, and most of us have food and our loved ones near. Why not give a little to those who are struggling? It's a great way to thank God for our blessings. I know I have a lot of blessings, and God has been very merciful to me. Please take a few dollars and help with the Ventura County food share. On a very happy note we now are selling Citrus Blossom Honey! That is ou...r current one and only flavor unless we process more honey by straining it. But............ Everyone who knows what I'm talking about can stand up and cheer! It's soo yummy! In case you want to stock up and not pay $10 for a 16 Oz bottle we still have our very special price. Yep, you guessed it three bottles of 16 Oz honey for $20. Or get an even better deal with the 1/2 gallon jug for $30. BTW if you weight it's a lot more honey than what you get in the small 16 Oz bottles with a lot lower price! And the best part is my house will not ooze in honey if you buy some. You can not imagine how many rooms in your house can be taken over with honey/beekeeping supplies when you are married to beekeeper and have all your kids move out. My goal in life is to sell as much honey ASAP! You can get our honey safely through my best ever porch pick up system. Just message to me when you want to stop and buy some. Yesterday I went up to the apiary and I spent five hours clearing the brush from the apiary. It was a labor of love because I don't want a fire to get to my bees. Even if I do clear all the brush away they I feel like they still are at risk from ashes and embers blowing onto them. Any one have any ideas on how to protect them from a brush fire? They are up in a canyon in Simi Valley. I am doing the standard fifteen feet of brush clearance. Thanks.
