Meet Brenda Villanueva! Brenda is an Assistant Engineer with the Resource Management Agency and has decided after 20 years, it is her time to move on from working for Monterey County. Brenda’s service started in Public Works in May of 2000 where she spent a few months in the Traffic section before being transferred to Land Surveys where she worked for about a year and a half. In 2006, Brenda was promoted to an Engineering Technician and was transferred to Land Development wh...ere she was called to serve our Country in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the U.S. Navy. Brenda served for a year oversees but says that her team was in contact with her the whole time. Brenda has contributed a lot of her time to other departments within the County as well. She has been assisting in the management of 1,254 miles of County maintained roadway, which includes 29 signals, thousands of road sign additions and replacements, striping, and many other traffic control tasks for Monterey County. Brenda also assists in managing federal grants for roadway safety and was involved with the Emergency Operations Center in times of fire, storms, and now she has been helping by being an essential worker through the COVID-19 crisis. She has also spent the past several years assisting the Election’s Department as an Election Worker and a Precinct Officer. When asked about what she will miss the most about working for the County of Monterey she says, I will miss the everyday challenges that come with trying to manage 1,254 miles of roads. She has enjoyed connecting with the community and loved finding ways to help with the everyday issues that come about with the roads being driven on every day. She says she is so blessed to have worked with the many co-workers she crossed paths with because they all became like family. Brenda says, I encourage all who are employed by the County of Monterey to strive for excellence and never give up advancing as far as you can!
