SADLIBS AN OBITUARY WRITING WORKSHOP DURING COVID 19 I’ve been thinking a lot about LIFE these days. And about how the awareness of my own mortality can contribute to living. As we’re reforming and reshaping ourselves to adapt to these very new times, perhaps we should be composing a narrative about our old selves to share with the world. Wouldn’t it be great if we could design our own demise, attend our own funeral and compose our own biography?... SADLIBS is an obituary-writing workshop that is open to anyone who is curious about what it means to be alive today. Participants will meet on Zoom where they will be randomly assigned a writing partner. Partners will go to private breakout rooms where they will pose each other questions in order to gather information that will be used to draft an experimental obituary. Obituaries will be shared with the other workshop participants in a safe environment that prioritizes care, humor and empowerment. Connect with us, joyfully. Wednesday, April 22nd from 2-4 PM Saturday, April 25th from 6-8 PM RSVP here: https://bit.ly/2xFefoI This workshop is completely FREE Note: internet and a device with video & sound necessary

Join us for #dancesforsolidarity next Wednesday at Mast on Fig, a Dance Workshop led by choreographer Sarah Dahnke // RSVP here: https://bit.ly/3cJxZr7 In this Dances for Solidarity workshop, participants will be guided through the process of embodying choreography created by our collaborator Dushaan Gillum, who is incarcerated in solitary confinement in Texas. After moving through this process, we will work to create a movement-based response and transcribe this movement... into text that can be mailed back to Dushaan. This workshop is based on the process that Dances for Solidarity utilizes when creating live performances of choreography created behind bars, often performed by formerly incarcerated individuals. Dances for Solidarity works to transcend societal biases and allow system-affected people to transform their circumstances and reclaim freedom by creating movement in conversation with the criminal justice system. Join us in this practice, and join us in this movement. *** Dances for Solidarity began in 2015 as a letter-writing campaign. Choreographer Sarah Dahnke and several dancer and activist collaborators composed The Dance for Solidarity, a 10-step dance sequence that was sent to over 150 people in solitary confinement throughout the United States with an invitation to perform this dance knowing that at any moment, another person in solitary or in the outside world could be performing the exact same steps at the same time. The project has since expanded to co-create original choreography with several incarcerated collaborators and utilize their movement scores in live performances, aiming to reclaim human dignity through dance while also raising conversations about punishment, fairness, and justice as it relates to the prison system. Hold me. Let me hold you. Together we can hold THIS. / There’s still some spots left for Gregory Barnett’s Bawlroom Dance Workshop this Saturday, exploring intimacy, movement and trust. RSVP via link in bio! Saturday, March 7 7PM-9:15PM $20 suggested donation ... When I ask to hold your limbs, I ask for the honor of holding the desires living inside them. When my eyes look into yours at length, I rescind all urges to project my will onto yours. When your weight proves calm in my grip, I acknowledge the immeasurable value of your dreams, and care for them as if they are my own. Amen While learning footwork patterns and embrace variations of ballroom dance, we will consider what genuine intimacy is and how to offer it. We will use voice, extended periods of eye contact, and touch to create bonds of trust between each other. Any vulnerabilities exposed during our initial intimacy practices will be regarded as gifts deserving of ongoing recognition and consideration through out our working. We will celebrate the connections earned with a loosely guided Ball/Bawl, holding each other however able. Gregory Barnett makes dances, altars, imagery, and stories believing he is better for it. His work attempts to locate junctures between lineage (memory) and prayer (desire) in an effort to maximize will's potential (with mixed success.) In lieu of pursuing a sociology degree, Gregory became a prostitute and children’s gymnastics instructor. He has shown work in Los Angeles and other cities since 2004. #mastonfig #gregorybarnett #danceworkshop #intimacy #nela #cypresspark #highlandpark
