Margiana Petersen-Rockney, a 5th-year PhD student at UC Berkeley, was homeschooled on her mom’s diversified dairy goat farm in Massachusetts until she started college. Not many academics studying farming systems come from a rural or farming background, and that is where Petersen-Rockney who studies how rural agricultural communities in the United States’ are responding and adapting to climate change stands apart. I’ve always felt tension between doing tangible work, li...ke farming or working directly with farmers on the challenges they face, and having the capacity to effect structural inequities in our agri-food system through academic and policy work, says Peterson-Rockney. Often, we don’t see tangible change. Read about Margiana's work that values and includes rural knowledge holders. https://grad.berkeley.edu//margiana-petersen-rockney-food/

UC Berkeley’s Office for Graduate Diversity hosted its first universitywide Graduate Diversity Admissions Fair on Oct. 22, with a phenomenal participation from 1,500 virtual attendees and 52 academic departments. This fair aligns with the Graduate Division’s expanded emphasis on increasing diversity within Berkeley’s applicant pool, student body, and future faculty, and creating a culture where students from all backgrounds feel welcomed and supported. We thank the Office for Graduate Diversity, participating departments, and the 1,500 students in attendance for helping to execute such an historic event for graduate education at UC Berkeley. #GoBears Read more https://bit.ly/2Gb2wmi
