Whaaat?!!! Yes, you know it. It is your clothes job to fit you, not the other way around! Are you trying to lose weight so that you’ll fit back into a pair of jeans you love? Maybe you refuse to buy new clothes because you feel you should fit into your clothes. Or maybe you don’t have the time or money to buy new clothes so you’re going to lose weight so that you don’t have to. Whatever your reason is, consider the following. Nearly 100% of people who lose weight gain the wei...ght back and nearly 70% of those gain back more weight than they lost. Losing weight is a recipe to end up back where you were or at an even higher weight after lots of physical and mental struggle. There’s a lot of deprivation, physical and mental, when losing weight which is harmful to us both physically and mentally. There’s also the guilt that we go through when we feel we ate something we shouldn’t have or if we didn’t exercise when we think we should have. This guilt is harmful to us both mentally and physically. And there’s the shame we feel as we’re regaining the weight and once we’re back to the weight we started at or more. Again, this shame is harmful to us both mentally and physically. Our bodies release a hormone, called cortisol, when we feel deprivation, guilt, and shame. Our bodies can handle this when it’s every once in a while, however, when it’s over a long period of time the cortisol starts do damage: anxiety depression digestive problems headaches heart disease sleep problems memory and concentration impairment WEIGHT GAIN!!! Allow your body to find its natural weight, the weight it wants to be at instead of fighting it. Buy new clothes. If money and/or time are obstacles, decide on some basics. Try big box stores or 2nd hand stores in your community or online like Poshmark.com or Thredup.com. If your clothes are too small, tight or restrictive your attention will be focused on how uncomfortable you are and your weight. If you wear clothes that fit, you’ll feel so much more comfortable, and be in a better headspace

Do you weigh yourself? How often? Maybe daily? Weekly? When you do NOT like the number, how does that affect your mood and food choices for the day?... When you do like the number, how does that affect your mood and food choices for the day? Surprised at your answers? Here are some reasons to stop weighing yourself: 1. Emotionally wrecks you. Our society has attached a moral value to weight loss and weight gain. You are not a good person because you lost weightand you are not a bad person because you gained weightdespite the messages that diet culture may send you. Allow your self-esteem and self-worth to come from your inherent lovability and worthiness and the contributions you make to the people in your life and the world, not the number on the scale. 2. Weight is not a good measure of health whatever that means to you. Smaller bodied people can be unhealthy and larger bodied people can be healthy. Instead of trying to achieve health by manipulating your weight, which doesn’t work in the long run anyway, practice healthy behaviors: get enough sleep, be physically active as your body allows, maintain healthy relationships, avoid/deal with chronic stress, eat three meals a day plus snacks as needed. 3. You’re not listening to your body’s signals of hunger, fullness and satisfaction if you’re eating and exercising based on the number on the scale. Listening to your body’s signals is called interoceptive awareness. Interoceptive awareness is associated with self-esteem, well-being, optimism, body appreciation and acceptance, life satisfaction and more! 4. You cannot control your weight over the long-term! Research has repeatedly proven, despite what the media and advertising sells us, nearly all people who lose weight will regain it and a majority of those people will gain more than they lost. It’s a losing battle physically and emotionally. Try not weighing yourself for the next month. Then ask yourself how you felt NOT weighing yourself. Research shows that nearly 100% of people who lose weight will regain it and nearly 70% of those will not only regain the weight they lost but gain more. This is a survival mechanism of our body’s. When we fight it by dieting our body responds by decreasing our metabolism and ultimately, at some point, we will eat a lot or binge. This is harmful to us physically and mentally. If you stopped spending time and mental energy trying to control your weight: What would you do wit...h your time instead? Enjoy a book? Start a business? Spend more time with family and friends? ______________. How would you feel? Relief? Calm? _________________. #hanfordca #lemoore #visalia #centralvalley #intuitiveeating #intuitiveeatingofficial #onlinedietitian #nutrtioncounseling #registereddietitian #nutrtioncoach #nutritioncoaching
