The American River Parkway Foundation sent a letter to Sacramento County and the City of Sacramento demanding something be done to address the homeless problem. They say it’s the county’s responsibility to provide for the safety and health of its residents, including its parks, and that continued inaction is damaging the local environment. https://www.abc10.com//103-0eef9f6e-c74b-4b88-9e32-3ba9f6b

On Tuesday, January 11, 2022 the Sacramento City Council approved funding to help cleanup the Downtown neighborhood. $1.15 million will go to the downtown partnership to increase the schedule for pressure washing and trash cleanup, hire two nighttime security guards and enhance the lighting in the J, K and L street corridors between Seventh and 13th streets. Lighting improvements will include sound-activated lights that would create an interactive experience for visitors to K Street.

A. Meetings with a [SCUSD]’s negotiator prior to the purchase, sale, exchange or lease of real property in order to grant authority to the negotiator regarding the price and terms of payment.50 The closed session notice should state the address of the property, the identity of the negotiator, and whether the instruction will concern price, payment terms, or both.51 Prior to the closed session, the public body must hold an open and public session in which it identifies its... negotiators, the real property or real properties which the negotiations may concern, and the person or persons with whom its negotiators may negotiate. Note: This provision has been the subject of considerable abuse. For example, government agencies involved in enormous, multi-faceted transactions have used a real property portion of the potential transaction to discuss the entire matter in secret. It has also been invoked to cover meetings attended by representatives of the adverse party in the negotiation.

We had another great clean-up on Sunday morning. The update Old Marshall School was not as trashed. It seems like folks are showing more respect for the building and neighborhood. We still found some needles on the property. It was only three this time as opposed to the bag of needles from last month. During the clean-up, volunteers created signs showing the failure by SCUSD to act regarding Old Marshall School. ... The signs asked the School District to act and act fast before Old Marshall School is demolition by neglect. All of the signs were gone on Tuesday morning. I guess the School District did not like being held accountable regarding Old Marshall School. Also, the latest effort to transfer Old Marshall School to the Mogavero-Bardis Development team has hit a brick wall. The approach involving the City of Sacramento is going to be overly complicated, add another layer of bureaucracy, and will not save any time. Why is the disposition of Old Marshall School so complicated? Two other long-vacant schools on N Street were dealt (the CLARA and Jefferson). One is an artist hub and the other will be restored and housing will be added to our community. We will not give up on Old Marshall School! We mourn the loss of the Alhambra Theatre and we may be saying Remember Old Marshall School if SCUSD does not act and act now. This 2018 article explains what the future of Old Marshall School could be. https://www.newsreview.com//c/leveraging-history/26568039/ We are looking for ideas as to how to get SCUSD to act. Please send in your suggestions.

The sign says it all. @SCUSD must not be allowed to demolish Old Marshall School by neglect. Remember the Alhambra Theatre? Well, Old Marshall School is next unless @SCUSD acts now! Come to the monthly clean-up tomorrow at 9 am to 10 am. Show your love and support for this piece of Sacramento history. Thanks to whoever put up these signs. #SaveOldMarshallSchool

The fate of Old Marshall School will be discussed again during a closed session meeting of the School Board on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. The development team says there is an opportunity for the School Board to sell the property to the development team if there is a unanimous vote by the School Board. How did we get here? We are not sure since all of these discussions occur behind closed doors. ... Below are the emails of the Superintendent and the members of the School Board. Please take a moment to send a simple message to them. Tell them to sell Old Marshall School. Sell it now to save Old Marshall School. Tell them to keep the promise the School Board made to the community four years ago when they promised to save Old Marshall School. Great news. Carson Anderson, Preservation Director for the City of Sacramento is meeting with SCUSD staff today at Old Marshall School to discuss the status of Old Marshall School and develop some plans to secure the building and maintain it. Mr. Anderson attended our August clean-up and was very disappointed in the deplorable condition of the City History Landmark. Please join us for the Clean-up on this Sunday.
