The twins adoption finalized...! I won't get too sappy, but honestly it feels like every single moment of my life was leading me right here. This love is all-consuming and overwhelming, and sometimes the scariest thing I've ever felt. There's also a deep sadness in knowing they won't get to be raised by their first parents. Their hearts will forever have a hole. But, we will surround that hole with love, honesty, and respect for as long as they'll let us. For three years, ...we have carried the anticipatory grief that comes with foster care that rarely gets mentioned. It's filled with sorrow, fear, and countless tears over what we may lose. Over what they've lost... It's heavy. Our day-to-day life hasn't changed at all with the finalization, but the weight of that grief has lessened.
