Had the opportunity to look at this Paul Revere Williams estate in Bel Air. You might know some of his buildings, many are LA landmarks. But for those not familiar with the architect, Paul R. Williams accomplished quite a bit in his career, which spanned almost six decades... He designed more than 3,000 structures and was regarded as an expert in a range of architectural styles. He was also the first Black architect to become a member (and later a Fellow) of the AIA. Paul R. ...Williams also designed a number of civic, cultural, and institutional projects, including churches, affordable homes, public housing, and schools. Tomorrow 4/15 at 6pm Los Angeles Conservancy is hosting a virtual event with Williams’ granddaughter, Karen E. Hudson, and other notable experts to discuss the ways Paul Williams changed Los Angeles and the field of architecture. Todd recently visited Community Rebuilds in Moab UT a few weeks back. They are building 1200 sf affordable houses for low-income families in the area, using straw bale construction, natural plasters, adobe floors sealed with linseed oil, and cast-in-place concrete countertops, not to mention grey water retention and solar panels, all at competitive pricing.
