The County of Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles have dedicated part of their CARES Act funding to provide child care services (vouchers) for essential workers and low-income working parents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many thanks to Colgate for donating dental products to families in our Oxnard Early Learning Center. Even though the center is closed, MAOF was still able to help preschool children obtain these much needed products.

MAOF Maintains Our Call for Social Justice Los Angeles, CA: MAOF, for over 57 years, has focused on bringing equality to the communities we serve which are predominantly people of color. Federal, State and Local officials must come together to define the change that will bring an end to the terrible inequity the Nation has repeatedly witnessed across the country. The horrible and senseless deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless other Black A...mericans illustrates the need for police reform across our land. The House-passed bill on Thursday, June 25 begins to define actions to address these challenges and we implore our leaders in both the house and the senate to come together to bring about change. In addition to assessing policing activities, we highly recommend that early education also be addressed. There remains an inequitable distribution of funding to our schools and pre-school programs. Many inner city youth find themselves on bad paths to life because the system fails to show them the opportunities that exist with a solid education. For more than 57 years, MAOF has proudly responded to the needs of our community by addressing barriers and empowering families to achieve self-sufficiency. We stand with the Black Lives Matter movement. The seeds of hatred and bigotry need to be eliminated from all segments of our society. Peaceful protests that followed throughout the country after the killing of George Floyd reflect the outrage people of all ethnic groups felt and marched in solidarity. Now is the time for the Nation’s leadership to take major action to assure equity among minority groups in our country. Change starts at home and by being an active part of a responsible and civil society. Vote, respond to the Census, volunteer, call your legislators. If our elected leaders at the national, state and local levels do nothing to take this moment to make major policy decisions to assure respect and equality for all, they will have squandered a historic moment in time.

MAOF Client Testimonial Hello, My name is Gloria Saucedo, and I want to thank MAOF for all the help they have given my family.... For some time now, they have helped me with doing our taxes for free. I have also received assistance with applying to become a US Citizen. Additionally, they are currently helping me become financially stable with the Esusu and ScholarShare programs. I applied for the ScholarShare program to save, thinking about my children's future. I am infinitely grateful to them for keeping up to date with my progress and always being in touch with me to update my information. My 2-year-old child attends one of the MAOF preschools, very close to my work, making it very easy for me to drop off and pick up my child without getting too far from my workplace. In addition to the tranquility, it gives me confidence to leave my child there since the teachers are very good and kind to the children and have all the necessary materials for the children to learn and be well cared for. In these difficult pandemic days, they have also continued to help us with pampers and free food for my children. I thank you on behalf of my family and myself for your time, understanding and your effective help. Sincerely, Gloria Saucedo
