In honor of President's Day here are some fun facts about presidents: Washington’s Birthday is an American federal holiday on the third Monday in February that began in 1796 to honor George Washington. Abraham Lincoln’s birthday falls close to George Washington’s, but Lincoln’s is not a federal holiday. Some States still celebrate his birthday along with George Washington’s.... Did you know? (President’s Day Facts) James Madison and George Washington are the only presidents who signed the constitution. President Gerald Ford was the first to be president and vice president without ever being elected. John F. Kennedy was the first president who was a Boy Scout. Even though Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday, each state is free to call it what they choose and how to celebrate. Source: www.officeholidays.com

We know 2020 has been challenging, but we can and will continue to strive to make our small part of the world a better place for our residents, tenants, owners, and staff. Here’s to looking forward! *Cheers* What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t even happened yet. Did you know? The first Valentine's Day was in the year 496! Having a particular Valentine's Day is a very old tradition, thought to have originated from a Roman festival. The Romans had a festival called Lupercalia in the middle of February - officially the start of their springtime. Valentine’s Day is always observed on February 14. Esther Howland of Worcester, Mass., published the first American valentine in 1849. Hallmark first offered Valentine’s Day cards in 191...3 and began producing them in 1916. In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Australia, Denmark and Italy. One of the most popular and recognizable Valentine's Day symbols is the god of attraction and desire, Cupid. All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt. Charles M. Schulz

PROVIDED BY: CARMEL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE What Every Business/Organization Must Know About Prop15, the $11.5 Billion-A-Year Property Tax Hike on the November Ballot California is in the midst of an unprecedented economic crisis, and yet another threat is on the horizon for small businesses.... Prop 15 on the November ballot will be the largest property tax increase in state history at $11.5 billion per year. Unless defeated by voters, the measure shreds long-standing Prop 13 protections that have kept property taxes affordable and provided every taxpayer that buys a home or operates business with certainty that they can afford their property tax bills in the future. Prop 15 repeals these protections for business property by requiring reassessment at current market value at least every three years. Prop 15’s higher property taxes will cause rents to skyrocket for small businesses and the cost of living to increase for all Californians. That’s why small businesses, farmers, social justice organizations, and taxpayer advocates across California oppose this massive tax increase. Why should everyone be concerned about Prop 15? Threatens jobs. An estimated 120,000 jobs will be lost during a time of record unemployment. Raises prices for consumers. Higher taxes on businesses will ultimately get passed on to consumers in the form of increased costs on just about everything people buy and use, including groceries, fuel, utilities, day care and health care. Hurts small businesses. Prop 15 does nothing to prevent higher property taxes from being passed to small business tenants through higher rents. Lacks accountability. Sacramento politicians can divert the new local government tax money for other purposes, just like they have done with the gas tax. #mancoabbott, #carmelchamberofcommerce, #prop15
