To our loyal guests and supporters: It has been just over 90 days since Desert Theatreworks (DTW) paused our operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. First and foremost, DTW hopes that you and your families are safe and healthy while we all navigate this unprecedented event. The DTW Team checks in with each other regularly, and to date, we are all healthy and supporting each other as we go. While we have been paused, we have been working with city, county, and state offices t...o stay informed as to what the latest safety guidelines will be for a safe reopening. As of today, we do not have a clear picture as to when theatre will return in a way that is safe for our guest, staff, and performers. This is not a unique situation for just DTW, theatres across the country are all working to develop best practices and face the challenges as we prepare to return live theatre performances. What we can tell you today is that things will look differently when we return and DTW WILL RETURN. We will produce and honor all tickets that have been purchased for the three shows that were paused from our 2019/20 Season as well as all tickets purchased for our upcoming 2020/21 Season. As we continue this summer, we will hopefully have a better idea as to when we can reopen. DTW will keep you informed and announce an opening date as early and safely as we can. When we have an opening date, our customer service staff will be reaching out to you to reschedule your tickets and update you on any changes to our season.Until then we ask for your patience while we wait. We at DTW miss you and miss seeing you at our shows. Our DTW family is what our organization is all about. Please know that we are anxiously anticipating our return where we can all enjoy the arts in a safe and fun manner. Ronald Phillips-Martinez Chief Executive Officer

As a theatre producer and theatre professional, I have seen many different approaches to the subject of race when it comes to theatre...in my opinion mostly frosted with whiteness and or tokenism with some exception. As a preteen, I went to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. This was an eye-opening experience. There were plays we saw that tackled the subject of race, ethnicity, economic status, gender and sexuality. But many of the plays chosen were just good plays, c...hosen not for a thought provoking status, rather for their excellent writing. I was profoundly impressed with the actors chosen. They were excellent, many different shapes, ages and colors - and unless the story was about race - there was no attempt to explain why a black father had a Hispanic son, etc...because it was simply about the level of acting. I do feel it’s important to present stories from every culture and cast appropriately when telling these. BUT there are many times when the plays chosen can be played by any actor regardless of color, gender, age and (often forgotten) size. I believe we should cast the best performer who auditions PERIOD! When the theatre community reopens, we need to remember that the theatre community has always been a safe space for anyone who is different. It saved the life of this Hispanic-ish gay kid (me) and has for countless others. Click here to support the cause https://www.weseeyouwat.com/

A message for our CEO: Dear Valued Guest and Community, It is important that our community has a place to come together and express itself artistically. We at Desert Theatreworks believe that it is more important that the community be a healthy and vibrant one, strong and able to enjoy the arts to the fullest. That is why DTW has decided to take a brief intermission and will pause our operations until it is completely safe for us to come back together and enjoy what we do... as a healthy and stronger community. We will resume our hit production of The Producers followed by Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and All My Sons as soon as the health officials feel it is safe for us to do so. We have also sent our staff and all participants home to protect themselves and take care of their families until our intermission concludes. The DTW Family is the backbone of what we do and our most precious gift at Desert Theatreworks. What does this mean for our guests? Our offices are temporarily closed as well as productions postponed until we get the green light to proceed. You may email any questions to [email protected] . You will not receive a reply until we resume operations. If you hold tickets to any of the three postponed shows, we will reschedule your new performance dates after we are cleared to reopen. All Season tickets purchased for the 2020/2021 season remain unchanged. Although the script might be slightly different. The plot will be the same. DTW will continue to produce some of the best theatre in the valley along with our sister theatres when we all return to production soon. Stay safe and we will see you soon.at the show!
