Fuelwood Available at Horseshoe Lake! On August 10th and 11th fuelwood collection is permitted from wood piles created in part from the Lakes Basin Hazardous Fuels reduction project. This wood is delimbed, ready for pick up! Read below for more information, please note that permits are required: Fuelwood Collection Days at Horseshoe Lake Mammoth Lakes, CA--The Inyo National Forest announces an organized fuelwood collection event at Horseshoe Lake in the Lakes Basin on Monday..., August 10 and Tuesday, August 11. The gathering area is at the horse trailer parking lot. Gathering will be from 8:00 am through 5:00 pm each day and permitted in the designated and signed areas. All other areas within the Mammoth Lakes Basin area are closed to fuelwood collection. Substantial project work in the Lakes Basin to reduce fuels, remove hazard trees as well as powerline maintenance work by SCE has create the opportunity for fuelwood collection and removal. Fuelwood collection requires a free use permit and permit holders must follow the associated regulations within that permit. A total of up to 6 cords of firewood for personal use is permitted per calendar year. A cord is the amount of tightly piled wood in a stack four feet high by four feet wide by eight feet long. As a reminder, it is the responsibility of the permit holder to check and be aware of the firewood cutting restrictions in effect. Firewood cutting restriction information can be obtained by phoning 760-873-2555 at any time. Methods for requesting an Inyo NF Personal Use Fuelwood Permit: Send an email: [email protected] Mail-in requests: Inyo National Forest Attn: fuelwood permit, 351 Pacu Lane Suite 200 Bishop, CA 93514 Each request shall include your name, physical address, mailing address, phone number, driver’s license number and number of cords requested. Permits will be returned to requesters by hardcopy mail. Please expect that it will take 7-10 days to receive your permit. Additional areas for firewood can be found at Reversed Peak, Bald Mountain Road and Clark Fire Forest Management Areas located on the fuelwood map.
