Three 19 year old males and four females (18-20 years old), went for a hike at 11 am today in @malibucreeksp and required rescuing at about 4 pm after two of the hikers became stranded on a cliffside and 5 others were stranded deep in the Gorge area. All were wet and cold, but uninjured. Teamwork by #malibusar #lacofireairops #lacountyfirefighters #losthillssheriffsstation #castateparks and #lacountyfd resulted in all seven hikers being safely rescued. While an #LACountyFire... helicopter hoisted the five hikers that were stranded in the Gorge, #malibusar rescuers hiked the Butte to rescue the two hikers stranded on the cliffside. The rescue concluded three hours later. #teamwork #sar #searchandrescue #savinglives #firstresponders LASD Reserve Forces DetailLost Hills Sheriff's StationLASD Recruitment UnitLASD Reserve Forces DetailTeam WendyMountain Rescue AssociationCalifornia Region of the Mountain Rescue AssociationCalifornia Reserve Peace Officers AssociationLos Angeles County Sheriff's DepartmentLASD HeadquartersLos Angeles County Fire DepartmentLos Angeles County Sheriff's DepartmentCMCPelican ProfessionalLos Angeles County Fire DepartmentMcCormick Ambulance See more

Our 5th rescue of 2022 involved three hikers who found themselves stranded on a Boulder in the #RockPool at the water feature in Malibu Creek State Park. #malibusar #lacountyfire #castateparks responded to rescue the two males and one female. Fortunately, conditions were far better last night than on Monday night and we were able to reach the hikers by boat. After finishing 2021 with 148 callouts, 2022 has started out with a bang. Our third call in the first three days of 2022 involved treacherous conditions. @malibucreekstatepark is always a challenge during or after significant rains and last night was no exception. At 7 pm #malibusar was dispatched to a report of a hiker stranded at the #rockpool area. While en route we learned there were four hikers, ages 16 to 21 that were stranded on a large Boulder in the middle of a rus...hing river of rapids. After unsuccessful efforts to reach the hikers by boat and on foot (getting to 75 feet from them), we requested an assist from #lacofireairops. County Fire Dept helicopters 14 and 19 responded and initially were unable to reach the victims who were deep in the Gorge area braving 30 degree temperatures and rushing water. Eventually, one copter was able to lower a medic nearby and he was able to navigate to the victims to move them to a higher location to be hoisted out. Copters 14 and 19 alternated evolutions hoisting one victim at a time until all four were brought to safety. Rescuers had to contend with a deep narrow canyon, pitch black darkness, rushing water and frigid temps during this five hour operation. Fortunately all victims and personnel returned safely. The rescue was completed at 1 am this morning. #sar #searchandrescue #teamwork #savinglives #firstresponders LASD Reserve Forces DetailLost Hills Sheriff's StationLASD Recruitment UnitTeam WendyCalifornia Reserve Peace Officers AssociationLos Angeles County Sheriff's DepartmentMountain Rescue AssociationCalifornia Region of the Mountain Rescue AssociationLos Angeles County Fire DepartmentLos Angeles County Sheriff's DepartmentCMC Pelican Professional See more

At 6:30 pm tonight, #MalibuSAR was called out for a missing 45 year old female hiker in the Red Rock Canyon Park area in #Topanga. As temperatures dipped into the 40s rescuers grew more concerned that the hiker went off trail. We called for an assist by #LACoFireAirOps #lacountyfirefighters #lacountyfd. Excellent coordination resulted in Copter 16 finding the proverbial needle in the haystack by locating the missing women with their night vision goggles. The woman was unhurt and was airlifted to a safe location. #teamwork #firstresponders #sar #searchandrescue #savinglives

A parent’s worst nightmare is when something terribly wrong is happening to your baby. Today #LASD Norwalk Sheriff's Station Deputies responded to a Whittier ho...me regarding a 911 call for a 4 month old baby girl, who was not breathing. Deputies arrived to the home in seconds and immediately performed CPR on the unresponsive baby. They were able to successfully get the baby girl to take several small breathes on her own. Within minutes deputies escorted the baby to a local hospital via ambulance. We are happy to share that baby Alaiah is in stable condition at the hospital and being taken care of by her mom. A very proud Grandfather shared a video of the incident with us.

Today, with sadness and happiness, we wish happy trails to our longtime team member on her retirement. 30 years ago, Roxanna Rocky Morton aka Bubby, began her Reserve Deputy career with #MalibuSAR. Since 1990, Rocky has volunteered thousands of hours, saved countless lives and selflessly dedicated her life for others. Now a grandma many times over, Rocky still doesn’t miss a beat. Rocky is the longest serving female reserve deputy volunteer in the Malibu SAR’s 40+ ye...ar history. She achieved the rank of Reserve Lieutenant, is a certified range master, a nurse practitioner and a rescue field team leader. Given her achievements, Rocky has been a role model to the other female (and male) reserve deputies on Malibu SAR and for female recruits. There will be no other like Rocky. This ends an era. Today we retire her number. 100R08 is 10-7. TYFYS ma’am. We will miss your bright smile, your courageous leadership, your zest for life and adventure and your sense of humor. See more

MAX HUNTSMAN OMITS THE FACTS ONCE AGAIN October 5, 2020 Today, I learned of the latest Office of Inspector General (OIG) report. ... Conspicuously absent from the report is the fact the OIG had multiple opportunities to address the Banditos issue during the four years under my predecessor but chose to remain silent. This is because his job as a political appointee is to do whatever the Board instructs him to do. Mr. Huntsman now claims the past is the present, while willfully omitting all of the progress which has been made. His actions are purely politically driven and an attempt to undermine the reputation of the Department. The report alleges investigators did not conduct a thorough investigation into the Kennedy Hall deputy on deputy fight. This is false. Both criminal and administrative investigations were conducted where investigators interviewed over 70 involved parties and witnesses in the case. In addition, this case was submitted to the District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division (JSID) for their review and their office concluded there was insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The facts are that immediately after taking office, I relieved the East Los Angeles Station captain of his command, overhauled the entire leadership of the station, and transferred 36 personnel. In February of 2020, I became the first and only sheriff to successfully implement a policy specifically addressing employee groups which violate the rights of other employees or members of the public. 3-01/050.83. Employee Groups which Violate Rights of Other Employees or Members of the Public (http://pars.lasd.org/Viewer/Manuals/10008/Content/14944) On August 13, 2020, at the conclusion of the Kennedy Hall fight between deputies investigation, I held a press conference to publish the results of the investigation for the public. Twenty-six deputies involved in that early morning fight were either suspended or terminated. As has become his pattern, Mr. Huntsman seems to have once again intentionally omitted facts which do not further his political agenda. Please view our August 13, 2020, press conference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEg6Gzilpt4&feature=youtu.be

A message from Sheriff Allex Villanueva: As of this Tuesday September 29, 2020, the Board of Supervisors continued their campaign to defund the LASD. $105 milli...on additional dollars are being diverted to support criminal offender programs such as the Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) initiative. This is at the expense of patrol deputies who keep our families safe, detectives who investigate hundreds of cases, and custody resources that keep the community safe. 11 year old Max Durfee and his 8 year old brother Carson decided this past weekend that they needed to do something to raise money to help the injured @lasdtran...sit Deputies that were attacked at a @metrolosangeles train station on Saturday 9/12. They came up with a clever idea of making craft sodas and selling them on the corner near their home. 2 days and several hundred customers later, they had surpassed their $300. goal and sold over $1100. worth of product. Today, with the news cameras from @knbc4 and @abc7la rolling, they presented their donation directly to @lacosheriff. A grateful and frankly taken aback Sheriff Villanueva humbly accepted the hard earned donation and praised the boys and their parents for their generosity and civic mindedness. Keep it up boys.
