We're very pleased to see so many of our clients, family members, and service providers taking advantage of the vaccine clinics offered by HRC, Oxford HealthCare, Ability First, and the ICC. These clinics have been able to offer a supportive environment for our clients, including those with behavioral and sensory challenges. We plan to continue to offer these regularly, so watch our eNewsletter for announcements of more clinics in the future. https://fb.watch/4IqJAmMEdN/

A national website for people with disabilities: "The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) and our 56 member Councils work across the United States and its territories to support programs that promote self-determination, integration, and inclusion for all people in the United States with developmental disabilities. We know the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Individual... and public health, education and employment opportunities, and community living have drastically changed. For many people with disabilities, including I/DD, they and their families or caregivers may be feeling anxious or unsure about the vaccine and its safety. Vaccine decisions should be based on facts and trusted sources. Vaccination against COVID-19 is important so everyone can safely get back to living their lives and being a part of their community again. For people with certain medical conditions, vaccination may not be possible -- but it may be critical for their family or caregivers and individuals in their communities. NACDD created this site to provide trusted sources to help you make the right decision for you, your family, and your community. We encourage you to use these resources, including those from trusted sources like the CDC, and talk to your healthcare provider about any questions you have about the vaccine.

"Cusack’s parents, according to McIntosh and Burke, supported their son in sports and in his life in general. After Chicago Public Schools failed to offer accommodations for Cusack, his parents hired a teacher to teach him and other kids with disabilities in their neighborhood. When he was 12 in 1968, Cusack competed at an event at Soldier Field which would later become the Special Olympics."

Some people with developmental disabilities in California will soon be asked if they want to get a COVID vaccine. You may be asked to sign a consent form. This ...information may help you decide for yourself. You can access the text-only version at https://scdd.ca.gov//u/sites/33/2020/12/COVID-Vaccine.docx. No vaccine is 100% effective although the COVID vaccines are highly effective. Even after receiving the vaccine, people should still wear face coverings and continue to wash their hands frequently and keep physical distance from others.

Meltdowns, common as they are among young children, are a complicated physiological response related to the brain’s threat detection system. Mid-freakout, it’s helpful for parents to understand what’s going on beneath the surface, then to mitigate the threat by establishing a sense of safety.
