When J.P. was in between dimensions the thing he missed the most was his mom’s cooking. Classic, good old fashioned home cooking. His mother was a whiz in the kitchen. She was famous for her meatloaf surprise with a side of peanut butter soup. But what he missed most was her Weineroni Casserole. Every time she plopped a big scoop of it onto young J.P.’s plate she’d say it’s frankly delicious! He unwrapped a Twinkie and gazed out into the universe. He never realized how much Mars looked like a 7-Up glazed ham.
She reluctantly agreed to leave the wormhole. She knew once she left the portal would be closed, forever. She was leaving a piece of herself in Elsewhere. A piece of herself that she forgot existed. She hadn’t had fun like that in a long time. She stepped into the sunshine and dug around her bag for her keys. Her fingers padded around but came up empty. It was then she remembered gently shaking her keys at Gary the plant, coaxing the plant to come closer to her so she could pet it. Oh well, she thought, a nice walk home it is then.
The calls came every couple of minutes. 11:53. 11:55. 11:57. 11:59. First it was the faint din of people at a party. Second it was the sounds of champagne coupes being touched together in celebration. Third, a soft hum. Fourth, a gentle song. At 12:01 the phone rang again. Hey there, sorry to disturb you, this is Fred with maintenance, sorry about the issues with your phone, darn thing hasn’t been working right since that octopus got ahold of it. (@nghissan)
The guest in room 433 peered into the mirror. Her reflection was missing, again. The lobby attendant told her not to worry. It would meet her any moment now. She just had to have patience. She squinted into the reflective glass. Slowly, she saw her face appear. The guest in the room looked relieved. The face in the mirror looked ecstatic.
It never rains in Elsewhere. Unless you’re looking in the rain microcosm in which case, it’s literally always raining. (@brentbusnell)
Madeline opened the paper to the horoscopes. This is a pleasant day because you are bound to encounter new faces, see new places and hear new ideas because something unusual will make this day memorable. Spontaneous short trips are likely. Take a friend and be open to new experiences. She picked up the phone and dialed a number she hadn’t called in years. Hi, it’s Madeline, how fast can you get to Madcap Motel?
We’ve been told we have our head in the clouds. Maybe that’s true. But what’s wrong with being Elsewhere?
Whenever a guest opened the curtains to their room it made Madeline think of fish in an aquarium. She could see inside their world. Their clothes laid on the bed, their suitcase tucked halfway under the bed. She enjoyed watching them as much as she enjoyed watching her little goldfish swim around the bowl on her desk. When her fish would disappear into his coral she thought it was just like the guests disappearing in the closet of room 433. I hope you’re having fun in there, she said as she tapped on the glass.

JP watched the hands fly around the clock like the wings of a hummingbird. Time worked differently in Elsewhere. How long had he been here? A day? Three weeks? 10 years? He couldn’t think about that now. He had another transmission to record. He just hoped someone would hear them.
A lot of people think it’s bad luck to open a portal to another dimension on Friday the 13th during Mercury in retrograde. But in Elsewhere, we make our own luck.

Why it’s like I’ve always dreamt it would be, said the woman from room 433 as she floated underneath the gentle waves. She was surprised at the ease with which she could speak underwater. And she could breathe as though she wasn’t submerged at all. As she walked around marveling at the sights and sounds a voice told her to make her way to room number 7. But she didn’t want to stop swimming just yet. She wanted to be in Elsewhere for a little while longer. It was so much more fun than reality.
Madeline Capri looked through the stack of photos left behind in room 433. The guests had been on a tour of all the wackiest roadside attractions in America. But nothing, not the world’s largest peanut, nor America’s loudest bullhorn could prepare them for what they were about to experience in Elsewhere.
JP Sando had a knack for finding people who felt like a fish out of water. To them, JP was a paddling pool, a babbling brook, a gentle stream. A safe place to dip their toes in without judgment. JP welcomed everyone who felt a little different, because he was different, too. He created his own family at the Madcap Motel. He welcomed everyone with open arms. And in 17 days, we are opening our arms to you. Welcome to Elsewhere.
The atrium at the Madcap Motel hadn’t seen the sunlight in over 30 years. But that didn’t stop the bathing beauties in their lounge chairs and bikinis from rotating every half hour to ensure an even tan.
Please remember to buckle up during interdimensional time travel.
