PNB apprenticeship after SAB so no pre-pro program. Private Pilates lessons my last two years of SAB, it really shaped my legs/helped me with my technique. SUMMERS: Saratoga with NYSSA where I had the opportunity to have guest teachers from @nycballet teach my class and see them perform each night. This is where I caught the dancing bug and knew I wanted this as my career. Also, @paballet with Bo and Stefanie Spassof and Olga Kostrisky CROSS-TRAINING: Pilates and weight lifting WHY BALLET TOGETHER? I believe that this platform enables anyone from anywhere to experience the joy of movement from talented and dedicated performing/teaching artists. It brings us with similar interests together to celebrate this art form. HOW HAS DANCE INVIGORATED YOU ARTISTICALLY/MENTALLY? I have had the opportunity to work with amazing artistic directors/choreographers who saw my passion for dance and believed in me to be a better dancer. WAS THERE A DEFINING MOMENT YOU REALIZED YOU WANTED TO MAKE DANCE YOUR CAREER? I was the Prince in the NYCB Nutcracker at 10, the time on the stage surrounded by professional dancers propelled my love for the stage but seeing multiple performances of NYCB coupled with my training made my decision to dance a no brainer. WHAT DO DANCE MENTORS MEAN TO YOU? A mentor is someone who believes in you and helps guide you through your career. I have had different mentors for different facets of my career but I think Francia Russell continues to my mentor as I now co-own my studio. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF? Listen to your instructors, be like a sponge, and absorb as much as you can. Keep applying corrections and work your best each day, treating it as a performance. Enjoy the journey. HOW DO YOU HOPE TO SEE THE DANCE COMMUNITY EVOLVE? I believe that Covid has opened up doors of possibilities to collaborate with artists that we may have thought were out of reach. We are in this together and the arts will be even stronger once this is all over.
