Governor Brown here in California signed the new Medical Marijuana Regulation & Safety Act yesterday (October 10th); this will make our legal education program this coming Friday 10/16 even more relevant and valuable. See our notice below.

Dear Friends, As you may have heard, the CA legislature recently passed a package of three bills that will finally and comprehensively regulate the medical marijuana industry in CA. CA was the first state in the nation to enact a medical marijuana law some twenty years ago, but it has never had a comprehensive set of regulations to govern the growing and dispensing of medical marijuana. The three bills - collectively known as the Medical Marijuana Regulation Safety Act - are ...sitting on Governor Brown's desk awaiting his signature. If he does not veto the bills, or if he signs them by October 11 2015, they will take affect January 1, 2016. This legislation lays the groundwork for what could be either passage of a law by the legislature or by the initiative process next year in November of 2016 to provide for so-called "recreational" marijuana along the lines of the law, in CO, WA, Oregon and soon Alaska. We have been following this growing and developing industry for more than five years because amongst other things it directly involves intellectual property law. As investors flock to invest in the industry, they are asking how they can secure and collateralize their investments with the intellectual property assets of the companies they invest in: trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and patents. With all of this going on, we are proud to be co-sponsoring and speaking at an educational forum at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego on October 16, 2015 at 4:45 pm.
