Most people hear "Sunset Strip" and think of the nightclubs, boutiques, trendy restaurants, and paparazzi seen along Sunset Boulevard. Well, Sunset Strip is also the name of the neighborhood just above all that commotion. Homes nestled into the hillsides here have some of the best views of the L.A. Basin. Nighttime is particularly gorgeous when the city below becomes a starfield of twinkling lights. This Spanish charmer sits right above the Mondrian, Andaz, and Grafton hotels.... The Comedy Store is just around the corner. Funny thing though, the home is secluded and very quiet. It is a retreat from the undulating metropolis below. Check out other fabulous homes above the Sunset Strip via this link: https://www.luxuryhomeslosangeles.com/hollywo/sunset-strip/
Angelinos are accustomed to visitors telling them that "LA is so spread out" or that it doesn't feel like a "real city." Yep, it's spread out. But that latter point is debatable. As a local, any time you go Downtown, stop, and look around, you're reminded that LA is also very cosmopolitan. Here's a shot today of Pershing Square. LA also has something only a few other cities can offer: a cityscape that marries steel, concrete and palm trees. How cool is that?
There are three redwood trees planted in the front yard of this Mediterranean home in Outpost Estates. You can see them in the upper left corner of this picture. Anyone who knows what redwoods look like can easily identify them. Here's something most folks don't know: redwoods were widely used as a construction material during the early years of Los Angeles. In fact, the bones on this house are redwood. Here's another weird bit of trivia: termites don't eat redwood. While we... wouldn't think to cut down any more of this protected species to mass produce homes these days, it's pretty interesting to think about how hardy the species is. This home will stand for a many, many decades to come. John Sowden House, also known as the "Jaws House" or the "Franklin House" 1926 residence in Los Feliz. Lloyd Wright, son of America’s greatest architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, built the Sowden House for friend and photographer John Sowden. Check out these fabulous photos. http://sowdenlosfeliz.com/
