Chimney Inspection The Technician will do each of the following: - Conduct a visual inspection of the inside portion of your fireplace. - Put down protective floor coverings in front of your fireplace.... - Go up on the roof and do a visual inspection of the portion of your chimney above the roof. - Inspect your chimney using video camera. This is usually done from the top down, but when this is not possible we do it from the fireplace. When we do it from the roof, we make sure that the video shows that it is your property. We provide a link to the video after the inspection. - If needed, or if cleaning has been requested, sweep the firebox, damper, smoke shelf, smoke chamber, flue, and gas logs, if appropriate. - Provide a written report and repair estimate describing the condition of the chimney and show you pictures and video of any potential problems discovered. - Clean up all work areas. No work is ever done without customer authorization after an estimate of the cost.

What is a Smoke chamber? One of the most important areas of your fireplace and chimney is the smoke chamber. It’s the area above your damper where it angles up, funneling hot flue gasses to the bottom of the clay tile liner. The chimney liners on masonry chimneys are the two inch thick clay tile sections built inside the brick walls of the chimney, providing gas tight, heat resistant protection. An unlined chimney is unsafe as heat can transfer through the brick to the surrounding structure of the home, which is typically wood, and cause fires. CHIMNEY LINERS & RELINING If your chimney has a clay tile liner, it is likely at some point it will need to be replaced or repaired. Clay tile liners are very susceptible to fracture from constant heating and cooling of the chimney. They are also subject to damage from earthquakes. Without a properly functioning and intact chimney liner, burning a fire in your fireplace can create a fire hazard. Why Do I Need to Have My Chimney Swept? Every time you use your fireplace, soot (creosote) is created and deposited on the inside of your chimney as the smoke travels up the flue. As that substance cools it solidifies and results in a caked on layer that will build up use after use. Creosote is made up of particles from the wood and is incredibly flammable.
