Meet your #JRDA Southwest Regional Coordinator, Shana Kerr (Ima Hotmess)! Ima began roller skating as a kid, and worked as a teenager at Skate World in Chandler..., Arizona. She found roller derby in 2011, first skating with a recreational league in Boulder Creek, California, called the Mountain Maulers, and then later that year joining the Monterey Bay Derby Dames. While at Monterey she served as Captain of the WFTDA charter team, as a member of the Training Committee, and as the league's WFTDA Representative. Ima joined the Santa Cruz Derby Girls in 2013 as a skater and juniors coach. In 2015, sidelined by serious injury, she retired from play and became the Director of the Santa Cruz juniors program. In 2018 the Santa Cruz Derby Groms separated from the Santa Cruz Derby Girls in order to incorporate and become a 501(c)(3) organization specifically for youth skaters. Ima currently volunteers as President and Head Coach for the Santa Cruz Derby Groms, and has served as the SW Regional Coordinator for the JRDA since 2019. She looks forward to returning for another term.

It is our intention that the members of our league do both well and good. The well part was three hours of conditioning and skating this morning. The good part was posting up at the Ralphs down the street from the rink to collect food for the Burbank Temporary Aid Center. We collected lots of groceries and personal hygiene items and can't wait to get them to folks that need them. "What is the essence of life? Working out with Snot Rocket Science (Jennifer Gaskins) was a great way to start our day. She shared some of the powerful conditioning techniques used by USA Roller Derby, with whom she skates, and USA - Men's Roller Derby, for whom she coaches. We also learned some cool stuff about her and skating and derby during the Q&A. Thank you Snotty!

JRDA Registration is open. We are exciting to work with the organization to get skaters back on the track.

We spent a productive Saturday morning with Freight Train of Texas Rollergirls. We thoroughly enjoyed the workout she provided for our Beginner/Intermediate session and our Advanced session. The Q&A sections were very enlightening as well. Thank you Freight Train!

The first "roller derby" event was held on August 13, 1935. Happy birthday to the sport we love. Things have changed quite a bit since then. Here's to another exciting 85 years.

When you aim to be the best, it's helpful to learn from the best. As such, we spent time with roller derby champion and MVP Mutch Mayhem. She put us through our paces, showing us how to maintain a peak level of strength and fitness. Thank you, Loren, for being an important part of our team!

"Roller skating is taking over the world." When we come back to derby we look forward to an influx of new skaters who are discovering skating as a rewarding pastime.
