With so many things happening in 2020, let's take a step back and remember total girl boss, Frances Oldham Kelsey. She was a pharmacologist and physician hired by the FDA in 1960 to review drugs. One of her first assignments was to review the drug thalidomide used to treat morning sickness in pregnant women. Even though it had already been approved in Canada and 20 European and African countries, she withheld approval for the drug and requested further studies. Despite corpo...rate pressures, she held her ground and was vindicated when researchers found that thalidomide can cause serious birth defects.
