What better song to end 2020 with? (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding Written by Nick Lowe, 1974 Most famously covered by Elvis Costello and the Attractions, 1979... Nick Lowe wrote this song in 1973 when the hippie thing was going out of style and in arrived a new cynicism. It was originally supposed to be a joke song written from the point of view of an old hippie talking to everyone who started embracing a new cultural cynicism, cutting their hair and making fun of him. And the old hippie was saying laugh at me all you like, but what’s so funny about peace, love and understanding?
