LIving Legacies Family Histories 04.11.2020

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Jewish Journal posted some excerpts from two of my interviews with Holocaust survivors (first posted in my blog which... no longer exists). Sidonia Lew survived in part because of luck, but also because she was just so determined to live. Some of my projects have been edited to make more "proper" English, but that wasn't done as extensively in this one. See more

This is the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. In honor of those who died and those who survived, I'll share a bit from some of my interviews. ... A client's aunt, Sidonia, described being in a cattle car with a tiny window that she jumped through head first. She rolled down a hill, then found a barn where she hid until discovered. She was taken with a group of other Jews to the forest where they were forced to dig a ditch, then lined up on boards across the ditch and shot. She fainted just before the guns fired and woke up later, covered with bodies. She survived. The attached excerpt (if you can read it) is about another client, Helen, who was pregnant when she was taken to Auschwitz. See more

A very heartwarming event When one of my clients had 30 of his relatives over to give them his oral history and sign each of their books.

Wouldn't you love to have the memoirs of your great grandparents? Children, grandchildren and future generations of your family will be grateful to have your stories recorded! Everyone has a story--not only celebrities or people who have had amazing or harrowing lives-- and those memories are precious to our descendants.
