The SJPOA recently sent this email to all members. On behalf of the Chaplaincy we thank the POA for its on-going support of Chaplain Bryan, Chaplain Jim, & the Chaplaincy Program. ~Jeremy Martinez ... In the work we do at the POA, I always say there’s something new everyday we have to tackle, and there is. I want to take a moment, a breath, and talk to you all in between the lines. There are attacks coming at us everyday but they can't break us, they wont. We are family. A big part of our family is our Police Chaplains. Last night my wife reminded me that during these really tough times we should never forget what our Chaplains have done for us and what they do for us everyday. She is so right. There are so many officers that have leaned on our Chaplains and survived their crisis. Chaplain Jim and Chaplain Bryan are there for us 24 hours a day for ANY reason. If any of you picked up the phone and said you needed them, they would be there. These blessed people don’t get paid on-call pay, they don’t ask that. They don’t get paid overtime, they don’t ask that. They ask only we love them as they love us without any strings. COVID-19 has cancelled the golf tournament and other events where we would raise money for our Chaplains. They have to rely on us! I know these times are tough for all of us on every level. I write this to ask all of you to take a moment and make a change to make a difference. Just email us at [email protected] to up your contribution to the Chaplains Fund. Even if you can increase it by just a dollar or two, it will make a difference. Another way to to support our Chaplaincy is to shop through Amazon Smile. If you shop on Amazon, you can do the same thing from this site and it does not cost you anything, yet it will put monies toward the charitable organization of your choosing. Click here to enroll in Amazon Smile. Our Chaplains are on this site, and all you have to do is choose them. Our Chaplains' salary and living expenses is covered only by what we donate. As we fight others to protect our people, our Chaplains pray and support us to fight others for our safety and peace. I ask all of us to make one small change that allows our Chaplains to continue to support us. Please start or increase your support for our brother Chaplains, choose Amazon Smile, because they are OUR brothers. Thank you, Paul

I was thinking this morning that the summer of 2020 came and went pretty quickly. It definitely did not feel like a normal summer with all that was going on and now we are in the middle of Fall. The holidays are coming quickly and I am sure if you’re like me you are wondering what it’s going to look like this year. Most of us have family traditions and plans that we normally stick to but 2020 is going to be different. If that is causing you any anxiety or sadness, know that this is only one year and that things will not always be this way. Don’t focus on the negative but instead, focus on the positive. There’s always something good that we can focus on even during difficult times. Chaplain Bryan

Yesterday, I (Chaplain Bryan) had the privilege of working with Hillside Church San Jose to provide homemade food for all 3 shifts of dispatchers yesterday to honor them for their appreciation week.

Thoughts from Chaplain Bryan.... Lately I have been saddened by how much hate is out there in the world. There definitely are evil things in this world that we should stand against. However, I have seen a lot of hate towards people with different opinions. We should be able to talk and disagree over issues yet still be civil and loving towards one another. I know some people don’t do this and I can’t control that but I can control how I react to them. I choose to behave with love and respect and I hope you will too. The more of us that do that, will assist in helping make this world a better place. Stay level headed in this crazy world.

This past week has been so awful in regards to all the fires that are going on around us. Many of you, including loved ones, have been affected by the devastating fires nearby. Whether it is a loss of home and property or the threat of that loss, it has been very difficult for so many. Some of you have been evacuated from your homes and are stuck in limbo having to wait and see what happens. Please know that your chaplains and all of your PD family are here for you and are praying for you during this difficult time. If there is anything you need please reach out, we are here for you. Chaplain Bryan

Here is a quote that has helped me in life, Hope it helps you.... Chaplain Jim Attitude... by Charles Swindoll The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company......a church....a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes. See more

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAPLAINS This has been one of the most difficult times in history to be in law-enforcement. People in law-enforcement like you, are there because they want to serve and help their communities. There are some out there that question your heart and assume the worst when they do not even know what your actions have been and even more importantly have no idea what is in your heart. We all agree that there are things that need to be done differently and we are wo...rking on those, but there is a lot of undue anger and hatred towards most officers that do not deserve that. It feels like those voices are the only ones speaking. I want you to know that there are many people out there that have seen your heart and do love and support what you do!! I want to let you know that we have been receiving dozens of emails and phone calls from all over San Jose. They are citizens, businesses, schools and churches telling us to please let the SJPD know that we love and support them. They have written letters, made posters, brought food, snacks and drinks. Many of you have not seen or heard any of these things. We have been trying to get the word out that there is a lot of love and support for what you do. We want you to know that there are many voices out there saying thank you and we support you!! The following page is an example from a citizen that lives in district Nora who wrote this letter and brought some snacks. You are loved and appreciated. Chaplain Bryan

Just want you to know that the majority of people love and support the SJPD. We have been contacted by numerous churches, businesses and dozens of people in the community in the last few weeks wanting me to pass on the message that they love and appreciate you. Here is an example of one of the latest. https://vimeo.com/431961115
