As of Saturday, May 2, Placer County’s local health officer order will expire and residents will be guided by the governor’s Executive Order to shelter in place... removing any confusion over areas of difference between the two orders. This transition will allow a local focus on planning for a phased reopening in partnership with local governments, health care, business and other stakeholders, as well as regional and state partners. While the local order will expire, residents still need to stay at home except for essential needs per the statewide order: https://covid19.ca.gov/ Nonessential businesses must remain closed under the state order. Local face covering recommendations remain, and physical distancing protocols are recommended for essential businesses. Because Placer County is still under the state’s order to stay at home, we currently don’t have the ability to make a local decision about when to reopen. Governor Newsom made it clear this week that the initial loosening of stay at home orders to allow some businesses to reopen will be made by the state, and for the entire state. Placer County is focused on making progress in areas such as testing, health care system capacity and contact tracing capacity, while working with businesses and other community stakeholders to plan for a safe, phased reopening.
