Change to Treated Wood Waste Disposal Due to changes in state law, the Eastlake Sanitary Landfill will soon no longer be permitted to accept treated wood waste for disposal. Treated wood waste comes from wood that has been treated with chemical preservatives. These chemicals help protect the wood from insect attack and fungal decay while it is being used, but it also means that this material is subject to California’s Hazardous Waste Control Law. Examples of chemically treate...d wood include vineyard stakes, railroad ties, fence posts, sill plates, landscape timbers, pilings, guardrails, and decking, to name a few. After December 31, 2020, treated wood waste will not be allowed to be disposed anywhere but a hazardous waste landfill, such as the landfill in Kettleman City. Additionally the material will be subject to hazardous waste transportation rules. If you have any questions please contact the Lake County Public Services Department at 707-262-1618. See more
