On behalf of Laguna College of Art + Design, we invite you to join our community in honoring Jonathan Burke’s 40 years of artistry, excellence, and vision by realizing his dream for the future of our students in building a Student Center. For 60 years LCAD has provided a celebrated arts education for its students. Jonathan Burke personally dedicated four decades of his life to delivering the best arts education experience possible to countless students. As President of the Co...llege for the last 10 years, Jonathan led the charge to transform the school into the internationally recognized institution of art and design that it is today. For his outstanding service to the College and its students, Laguna College of Art + Design is pleased to name the Jonathan Burke Fine Arts Program in his honor. In honoring Jonathan’s past, we look to continue his work and focus on a positive future for our students by creating the LCAD Student Center, which will provide a place for our students to gather, study, relax, and get the most out of their college experience outside of the studio. We invite you to honor Jonathan Burke for his 40 years of service to the students of LCAD with a Tribute Gift that affects our students’ future. All Tribute Gifts will be recognized as such in the LCAD Student Center. Your generosity and expression of gratitude in Jonathan’s name will stand in perpetuity! To share a personal message or memory for Jonathan to see, or to make a Tribute Gift, visit LCAD.edu (https://www.lcad.edu/about/support/jonathan-burke-tribute) See more

LCAD’s BFA program in Game Art provides a welcoming and collaborative environment in which you may reach your full creative potential and make the interactive characters and worlds you have always dreamt about. Our program is driven by a stellar faculty that will train and motivate you to create art beyond anything you thought possible and an inspirational community of students who consistently challenge one another. Our instructors are a combination of awe-inspiring game ind...ustry veterans who will lead you in cutting-edge game techniques and spectacular creatives from other walks of life who will help you discover different approaches to designing and creating in the real world. The Game Art BFA is a highly cooperative project-based program. All of the programs at LCAD have a strong foundation in traditional representationalism. Throughout your journey in the program, you will acquire a diverse collection of skill sets ranging from traditional painting to developing in-engine prototypes. You will use that skill set as a member of different teams assembled through our relationships with other schools and LCAD’s MFA in Game Design to develop games that may ship as full products or be showcased at the Independent Game Festival (IGF). LCAD MFA Programs in Drawing + Painting are proud to announce the exhibition, COVID Times: LCAD Masters Students Respond to the Pandemic from January 18 through March 4, 2021 at Laguna Beach City Hall, 505 Forest Avenue in Laguna Beach, California 92651. The collection is curated by Peter Zokosky, chair of LCAD MFA Program in Drawing + Painting from among 20 current Master of Fine Arts candidates. While we all experienced the recent pandemic, it’s intriguing to see how artis...ts process times of upheaval; some record how their daily life has changed, some seek refuge in nature or fantasy, while others quarantined with art supplies and found solace in long hours of creative practice, he said. Our first exhibition of 2021 is a chance to share the varied personal impressions as a record of resilience and hope. The exhibition will include many works of paintings and drawings submitted by the following MFA candidates: Jason Dowd, Ray Vargas, Agostino Vaccaro, Lin Hui Ding, Jessica Chong, Mark Silverberg, Kelly Smith Fatten, Jody Gerber, Brian Blasman, Matt Duckett, Laura Sonnek, Nora Xu, Renae Wang, Jill Maytorena, Danny DeMeza, Mike Lee, Peter Clarke, Kelley Mogilka, Mason Williams and Tracy Child. LCAD Faculty member Dave Hobrecht recently created this piece to honor baseball legend Tommy Lasorda. It was not originally created to be a tribute painting, but sadly it turned into one. A few weeks ago, Tommy was scheduled to come to Dave's Laguna Beach gallery to sign limited edition prints and the original. The day before he his scheduled visit, he wasn't feeling well and asked to push the meeting out a week. Sadly, the next day he went into the hospital. Dave discusses ...the painting and what it now means to him and the rest of the world, saying, "Tommy was 93 and more than just a Dodgers legend. Unfortunately we lost him a few days ago. Now it seems like the painting has taken a new meaning. He has been with the Dodgers organization for over 70 years....from when they were in New York to their move to California. This painting has Tommy crossing the Brooklyn Bridge to Los Angeles. It's called "The Tale of Two Cities" He adds, "LCAD is a special place for me. I love teaching here. I won't be able to put into LCAD as many years as Tommy put into the Dodgers, but I hope to teach here for the rest of my days!" The painting was recently featured on KTLA 5 as part of their Tribute to him. . . . #lasorda #tommylasorda #mlb #baseball #baseballlegend #fineart #tribute #restinpeace #lcadbfa #lcadmfa
