Today, some of our residents completed week 1 of their @upandrunningagain season. Coach Nick took are runners to @thepikeoutletslb for the "Penny run!" As you can see they had a great time. Today was pretty amazing! We were able to provide our community and neighbors 50 complete food boxes!! Each food box had enough canned goods and dry food to feed a family of 4 for about 5 days! This year has been kinda crazy. Fortunately, thanks to @upandrunningagain we were able to complete an 11 week season! Today, along with 6 residents we completed a half marathon of 13.1 miles in almost hurricane weather !! Life is crazy sometimes and these residents shinned with perseverance, endurance, dedication and encouragement! Thank you @bayshoretri for putting on the half marathon for us! Every person who completes the half marathon from our programs, are more likely to find success in their lives. Today, we are celebrating Danny and his completion of the 1-Year New Life Program!! In a time of uncertainty, Danny has truly stood out. It was not always positivity for Danny. Growing up in the 70’s in New Mexico, Danny dealt with abuse in the family. Coping with this, Danny struggled with staying out of trouble getting into petty crimes with his buddies. Over the next 25 years, Danny would spend his time in and out of prison, and getting high on heroin and cocaine. One day ...when Danny was doing his RCC time in Roswell, Danny was introduced to an old gang member, turned Christian. This person persuaded Danny relentlessly to attend church with him in prison. Danny accepted Christ in prison but would continue to struggle with his new found faith and his addiction to drugs. Over the course of a few more years, Danny would find himself at the door of the Long Beach Rescue Mission. After fighting his whole life with addiction and struggling with his moral compass, Danny was finally able to give everything to God. He really embraced his struggles and addiction was able to overcome it through continued discipline in his faith. Danny plans on growing in his faith more and facing some of the troubles he had in his past by doing the right thing! Danny we are so proud of you in your journey of faith and what tremendous adversities you were able to overcome. Today we are recognizing Ricky for his completion of the 1-Year New Life Program!!! We are so proud to count you among our esteemed alumni!! It was not always celebration for Ricky and he really had to go through the ringer to get to this point. Let me explain. Before Ricky arrived to our mission he was battling his addiction with gambling and alcohol. Ricky was from Seattle Washington and spent years gambling and drinking his life away, until he had that Ah-hah moment wher...e God intervened. God had other plans for Ricky and was able to get him to our mission through Greyhound. Ricky arrived at our mission and when he was presented with the 1-Year Program, he was hesitant until he had that Ah-hah moment where God helped him realize that if he did not do this, he would continue to go down the path of habits that brought him to us in the first place. Ricky was a stellar NLP and was constantly in his word, growing in his faith, and learning to be a better Ricky. Ricky we are so proud of you and the power in your faith to conquer your addiction.
