HUGE AIRBNB ANNOUNCEMENT TEMECULA The fines are steep! Read below copied directly from the Major.... Well, it was a long one last night. The city Council meeting didn’t end till 11 PM. The short term rental issue is officially dead At least for 12 months. We have decided to enforce the residential codes in the city limits of Temecula. In approximately 30 days a cease desist letter will go out to every short term rental in city of Temecula. Then shortly there after, if it has not been removed from all websites, $1000 fine per night will be imposed. These fines if not paid will be liens on the property. We truly hope we don’t have to Leavy a single fine on anyone. So if you’re running a short term rental out of your home, please shut it down. The city has hired a third party vendor who is going to be collecting all the data from the Internet. That’s not just the obvious websites, but they can find ANY listing, anywhere on the web. We all understand that there are a lot of good short term rental owners out there. But unfortunately laws like these are there to protect our citizens, who choose to call Temecula home, from the bad owners. Our #1 charge as city council men and women, is to protect our citizens. I personally have major concerns of who rents these short term rentals. I believe, without a doubt 95% are good families who are here to enjoy our beautiful city and wine country. It’s that other 5%, that has made our residence incredibly uncomfortable in their own home. The home they bought, and thought, they were going to be able to live in this beautiful peaceful community and enjoy that lifestyle. We as a city Council, has been studying this issue for over two years now. We have looked at other cities to what has worked and what has not worked. Every time regulation was created, it created a massive burden to the city that created it. And when that City tried to regulate short term rentals, they were legally obligated to allow them. We did build in a 12 month review after we’ve cleared the deck. If at that time, we could roll it out, at our speed, in our timing. It would be a much easier way to regulate and control the number of permits allowed. But keep in mind every single one that’s operating today is operating outside of the laws of Temecula.
