Remember the "good old days", when all you had to do was practice good law to have a good reputation as an attorney? Nowadays, our reputations live on the internet, and it is not as easy to maintain a positive reputation on line. It's certainly not as simple as simply practicing good law. As attorneys in 2015, we need to be proactive if we want our on line reputation to match our "off line" reputation. With technology and how we get information changing constantly, it's d...ifficult to even figure out what to do on the internet in order to shape and protect our reputation. Martindale, Avvo, Lawyers, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and other new sites are created all the time. Then there is Yelp. Who checks Yelp before they hire an attorney? Potential clients do, that's who! Figuring out which sites you should focus your attention on is only part of the battle. Then there is figuring out how to maintain them and how to get them to appear on a search for you. Hootsuite, back links, page rankings, and other search engine optimization techniques are all necessary. But really, who has time to figure all of that out AND the time to maintain it all? If you are a successful attorney, you probably don't have the time to pay attention to maintaining your internet reputation. So, where does that leave you? With a thriving law practice and a poor online reputation or no presence at all on the internet. There are companies who will now assist you in protecting your online reputation, at a reasonable cost. If you're not maintaining your online reputation yourself, hire someone to do it for you.
