On February 7, 2013, I gave the Keynote Speech at the 2013 Nomad Adjusting Annual Lone Star Claims Conference in Frisco, Texas. Tim Molony, President of Nomad, invited me to give claims adjusters from across Texas and the United States insight into my experiences with complex litigation and relate my experiences to investigating complex first party insurance claims and first party insurance litigation. I want to thank Tim for the invitation and honor, as well as Ashley, Mary and the Nomad employees for hosting me and putting on a great conference. Also, many thanks to all the adjusters and attorneys in attendance for giving me a few moments of your day.

On August 6, 2011, a friend and colleague of mine, Officer Jeremy Henwood, San Diego Police Department and Major (posthumous) in the United States Marine Corps Reserve was killed in his police car when a gunman pulled up beside him and shot him in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego. In the immediate aftermath of his tragic death, I had the privilege of working with Jeremy's San Diego Police Department colleagues coordinating the SDPD/USMC memorial service. I also h...ad the honor of escorting Jeremy's remains back to his family in Texas. Jeremy's story still resonates with many of us in San Diego. His memory will continue to live on and grow in San Diego as the City Heights Community Jeremy served and protected honors his memory by dedicating a park to Jeremy's memory. If you ever doubt your fellow man and the humanity of others, if you ever doubt that there are tremendous people in law enforcement, take a few minutes to read and remember Jeremy's story. Along with the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Armed Services Committee, this morning I volunteered at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton "Military Outreach Ministries" sorting children's clothes and food for military families in need. The Chamber of Commerce provides some excellent opportunities for businesses to give back to our community, service members and their families.

In my Marine Corps Reserve capacity as of November 1, 2012, I am now the Reserve Regional Defense Counsel (Pacific). As the senior Marine Corps Reserve Defense Counsel for the Pacific Command area of operations, I assist the active duty Regional Defense Counsel. We are responsible for supervising, teaching and mentoring Marine Corps Judge Advocate Defense Counsel who are defending Marines and Sailors before courts-martial and adverse administrative hearings in the Pacific Rim and South-East Asia including Hawaii, Okinawa and Iwakuni, Japan. I am really looking forward to this great opportunity assisting the talented Marine Judge Advocates advance their skills and provide the highest quality of defense services to their clients.
