This is the great racehorse Exterminator , and next to him in the foreground is his Shetland Pony Peanuts .
Happy 23rd birthday to our princess Rain! Loved by everyone who meets her but especially cared for by Diane and Rose Gold
Congratulations Kiedis on your new home and loving human! Only the best horses get their own little girl like wonderful Nikki. This sweet boy has gone through a lot in his life including a fire and an unusual medical condition, but has always been loved and now is in the best situation any horse could dream of.
Happy 11th birthday Elmer! This guy had his first trail ride yesterday and loved it :) Thanks to Madi, Madi, and Rose Gold for a fun trip
Be sure to watch the grey horse with red silks. Watch to the end.
A few photos from our fabulous Friday
We had a lovely Valentines Day dressage clinic with darling Louise Caccese today! So proud of our riders and horses and supportive barn mates!
Elmer and OB enjoying their nap time. Two new faces that bring us a lot of happiness.
This has some good tips , from a Master !
We don’t let the rain get in the way of our horse passion and learning!
It is with great sadness we share that Honor passed away Friday night. He was one of a kind and leaves many broken hearted humans, especially Laurel Mooney his main girl and Dave Schmidt his main man. He had great passion and enthusiasm for his many jobs, from racing to Eventing to bareback hacks, beach rides, lessons, and toting little ones around. We are so lucky to have had him. We’ll see your bright eyes and food-covered-face at the Rainbow Bridge, Honor
This past Saturday we said goodbye to a very special horse, Kid’s Joy, after his severe decline from cancer. Kid was kind and smart, and perfect for Laurie and then for Sarah. We miss his sweet face and always will.
Merry Christmas from Canty Rune Training Stables! Wishing our clients, supporters, and friends a wonderful holiday!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas as the barn!
Somewhere in the world, the 2028 Olympic champion is a foal out in a field. He’s ewe-necked, sickle-hocked, downhill and shaggy, with a club foot and a chunk of... mane missing, because his buddy chewed it off. Somewhere in the world, there’s a young horse that everyone says is too short to make it big. In three years, he’ll be jumping the standards, but right now he’s fat and short and no one is paying him any mind. Somewhere in the world there’s a 7-year-old who can’t turn right, and a 10-year-old who has not shown the ability to put more than two one-tempis together without losing it, and a 14-year-old who hasn’t yet reached his peak, and all of them will be at the next Olympic Games. Somewhere else in the world, there’s a rider who is thinking of packing it in. Maybe the bills are getting out of control, or she’s killing herself to get enough help in her own riding development because she’s having to spend all her time riding and teaching to make ends meet and change needs to happen, and she’s wondering if it’s worth it. She’s thinking it’s time to just give up and be a local trainer, to shelve her dreams of international competition. And then she’s going to shake off the doubt, double down, and make a team in the next 15 years. Somewhere in the world, one of the next great team riders is 9 years old and couldn’t tell if she was on the right posting diagonal if her life depended on it. Somewhere in the world there’s a future team rider who just got told that she’ll never make it because she’s too chubby, because she’s too short, because she’s too late. There are horses who will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars that will never amount to anything, and there are horses who will be touted as the Next Big Thing only to be never seen or heard from again, and there are horses who will fly under the radar until suddenly they’re setting the world on fire. There are riders who will win Junior and Young Rider competitions only to quit riding completely, riders who will be touted as the Next Big Thing only to get stuck in their comfort zones and never come to fruition, and there are riders who will make their first Olympic team at 50, at 55, at even older than that. And yes, there are the horses that will be brilliant from day one, and there are the riders for whom success both comes early and stays late. But more often than not, history has shown that the unlikely story, the horse who was passed over in favor of his more expensive stablemate, the rider who no one saw coming, is the more likely path to greatness. Nice ride Emily Masel on Kid today
Happy Halloween!!
What a weekend at Twin! One of our favorite shows filled with great costumes and good vibes. Unfortunately Laurie got smooshed by the big baby horse on Saturday which took her out of commission, but she was a strong leader and gave lots of encouragement for all 5 of us competitors to keep going. We all stayed in the sandbox, stayed on our horses, got over all the jumps, and most importantly had a blast. I’m especially proud of Madi and Rose Gold for completing their first horse trials and ending on their dressage scores. Ted and Jessica did great with their young mares and my own Kid was a rockstar. Twin did a great job running the show in a COVID-safe manner. And we loved seeing all our friends!
Payton looked great taking Hannah over some fun jumps!
Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by our Barn Warming Party! Hannah enjoyed the treats that came with her being the guestbook
We would love to see our old friends and make new friends, and anyone who feels like hanging out just because you love horses. Bring your own snacks , we will have drinks, but we will be social distancing .
We had a blast XC schooling at El Sueno today! Great job Madi on Bambi, Rose Gold on Rain, and Laurie on Catona. Lovely riding and happy horses.
If there was a horse Bible, these words would be in it.
The horses have settled in well though unpacking seems to be taking forever The calm energy here is wonderful.
We've Moved! Now located at 10542 Creek Road, Ojai CA 93023, our horses are settling in to their new home. Our deepest thanks to everyone who helped! And a special thanks to Billy for lots of expert carpentry work these last few weeks. We loved our time at Rancho Royale but are very excited for this next chapter. More photos to follow.
It’s been super hot, so a bunch of us girls enjoyed a bareback hack instead of a more intense ride.
Amelia and Coba having a nice round . These two have come far, but hard work and fun has been their motto. Well done !
We had a fun first XC school of the year at Ironwood! Great job riders Jessica and Ted on their mares Angel and Lucy, and also Katrine (of On the Line Equestrian) on both Secret and Dakota.
