: @mamasinverguenza | Shame is something I’ve been noticing come up a lot for me lately, everywhere. I’m paying attention to the ways I shame myself, which mak...es it a given that I’m more prone to shame others unconsciously, including my husband and sometimes my children (perfect parents don’t exist). It is helpful, for me, to able to contextualize shame in the way #bellhooks does here. The internal affects the external and vice versa. Acknowledging this relationship can wake us up and away from patterns of shame, when it’s difficult to do otherwise, because we remember that internalized and externalized shame is much more than a personal matter, it is a political and humanitarian one. It’s imperative to work on healing these patterns, give light to where they came from, and consciously strengthen antidotes like #selflove, #selfcompassion, #selfempathy and #selfforgiveness.
