Today would have been my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on a cold January day in 1971 in Chicago. It’s been a little over a month since my mom died. I know she is dancing and having fun wherever she is Smile today. Eat good food. Dance. Enjoy life

Recuperating from hamstring repair surgery. Likely old injuries coming home to roost. I am grateful for people who love me, people who care, and...my nurse dog, Bernie! #recovery #dietitiansofinstagram #bodyrespect #stillness #resilient #resilientwomen

Today was my 47th birthday. This has been a challenging year, an enlightening year. A year of firsts and lasts, of beginnings and endings. Bittersweet. I decided to watch the sunset at the beach with my son. The way he stopped to notice every shell, every piece of driftwood was an inspiration for me. ... To notice. To breathe. To be.

Ended the first weekend of 2021 with a meditation watching the sunset from the beach and then coming home and writing down everything I want to let go of from 2020. Then I burned it. #letitburn #recovery #2021 #freedom #dietitiansofinstagram #bodytrust

Went on an amazing hike this morning!! I love hiking - it gives me a chance to be in nature, be in my body, and listen to the universe. And - have fun! #hiking #dietitiansofinstagram #recovery #eatingdisorderdietitian #hobbies #selflove #selfcare #bodytrust

I learned what Juneteenth was when I saw it on my Google calendar about a couple years-ish ago. I googled it and only then learned that it is a celebration of the emancipation of Black people who had been enslaved here in the United States of America. Similarly, I only learned about the Tulsa, OK massacre, perpetrated by white people on the black community in the Greenwood District (Black Wall Street - google it) about a couple years ago. The fact that I didn’t learn about t...his in school is a direct result of systemic racism. Not only should this history be taught, but the fact that Columbus Day is still a holiday and Juneteenth is only now being discovered by white folk is again, a direct result of systemic, institutionalized racism. White folx: if you haven’t already, educate yourself on the importance of this day and, following the suggestion and assignment from @desireeadaway read the Emancipation Proclamation in its entirety. Eye-opening. See more

So many gems in this, but here’s one that references the reports that tie BMI to COVID-19. Give this article a read. Big thanks to Christy Harrison for writing this. Another glaring issue with the three published reports about BMI and Covid-19: They don’t control for known individual health risks that may be associated with worse outcomes for this virus, including asthma and other chronic respiratory conditions, cancer, and immunosuppressive medication use. #covid #covid19 #weightstigma #bmiisbullshit #weightinclusive #bodytrust #dietitiansofinstagram

Great article by Sabrina Strings. Definitely take time to read this article (3 min read). A quote (one great one of many): Doctors often tell fat people that dietary control leading to weight loss is the solution to their health problems. But many studies show that the stigma associated with body weight, rather than the body weight itself, is responsible for some adverse health consequences blamed on obesity, including increased mortality risk. Regardless of income, black women consistently experience weightism in addition to sexism and racism. From workplace discrimination and poor service at restaurants to rude or objectifying commentary online, the stress of these life experiences contributes to higher rates of chronic mental and physical illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, depression and anxiety.

Join me in creating space for and centering the voices of BIPOC folx. If I post this week, it will only be to repost the lived experiences of BIPOC folx. #mutewhitenoise

Bernie!!!!! It’s National Rescue Dog Day - didn’t know that was a thing, but here’s our wonderful little guy. We got him from @bichonsandbuddies . They were great with the whole process. Bernie is the perfect cross between a cat and a dog . Grateful to be his doggie mama!
