LA Throwback Beach Ultimate Fest

Out of our commitment for civic engagement with our community, we are partnering with Savage to create awesome apparel to show our support for equality AND we will offer Black Lives Matter jerseys as a gift to anyone who will donate $50 or more to a #BlackLivesMatter or adjacent cause of your choosing such as Equal Justice Initiative or Black Led Movement Fund. All you have to do is send evidence of the donation (e.g. a pic of a receipt, forwarded email) to [email protected]. We will send you a code that you can redeem with Savage for the jersey (men's and womxn's cuts available in all sizes).. We've really enjoyed working with Luis Rosales of Psicologos Sin Fronteras in migrant shelters and orphanages in Tijuana, bringing ARIA Discs to give to the kids and teaching them to throw. In the coming months, in cooperation with other local groups down there, including Rafael Galván Contreras great org Baja Sunset Ultimate and the international group Futbol Mas, we look forward to expanding the program and to bringing So. Cal. ultimate players down with us to help it grow.

A big thank you to all who have participated in the fundraiser, we’ve raised almost $1500 so far! If you haven’t yet but would like to donate, the fundraiser is still going. We’ve heard from some of them about what they are doing with the money, and it is helping in many ways, from providing essential supplies to allowing much-needed construction to take place. These neckies feature either 1) art made by the migrant children at the Albergue Embajadores de Jesús, as part of an art project we did there, or 2) our lovely avatar Freddie M. Pelican. Hi everyone, due to the ongoing pandemic we haven’t been organising much ultimate this year, but we’ve still been working hard behind the scenes over the past several months and are excited to finally be able to share that with you. The Ultimate Border Project began taking shape back in August of 2019. We started bringing ARIA discs and art supplies to migrant shelters in Tijuana with plans to teach ultimate there, in collaboration with local service organizations and people,... and with Baja Sunset Ultimate. Sadly due to Covid-19 we are currently unable to continue this. During the pandemic the shelters have been hit hard. They are privately funded and rely heavily on public donations through local churches which are presently not holding in-person services. We need your help. LATBF has set up a fundraiser with our local partners in Tijuana to send donations directly to the shelters. One of the foundation's major goals is increasing the civic engagement of our ultimate community and we’d be thrilled if you would engage with this with the same energy you bring to our tournaments and events. Uplift Ultimate is offering multiple opportunities to join week-long virtual camps this July and August for players ages 4-19. The online camps will include skills sessions, chalk talk, equity and Spirit of the Game discussions, and daily challenges! Participants will log online for 1.5-3 hours each day for 5 days each camp. Discounts are publicly available for anyone who needs them - pay what you can! U15 and U20 campers will personalize their tracks based on their experience level During these times of social distancing, LA Throwback Foundation is wanting to acknowledge two things as they may pertain to considerations for signing up: Everyone’s comfort level for return to ultimate-related activities differs. We encourage you to read through the event page and make the best decision for yourself and family. The FAQ covers the range of session topics from virtual/zoom discussions to solo activities/training. Everyone’s financial status at this time is different. But that should not stop anyone from learning about this great sport. As such, Uplift Ultimate is offering an easy to use sliding scale registration in the form of coupon codes. They cover various levels of discounts to full scholarships, and are accessible on the event website. Full disclosure, if you select LA Throwback as the recommending organization, we will receive ~4% of the registration fee, which will be donated to outreach programs the foundation works with.
