On Thursday, March 25, 2021, Sheriff Alex Villanueva held a press conference in front of the Hall of Justice to announce his support for the Asian community. He... was joined by Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles, Akira Muto; Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles, Kyung Jae Park; Honorary Consul General of Cambodia in Los Angeles, Mr. Kim Chha Hout; representatives from the Consulates of Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand in Los Angeles; Mayor of Monterey Park, Yvonne Yin; Mayor of San Gabriel, Chin Ho Liao and other highly respected community leaders. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been a significant rise in hate crimes against the Asian-American community. The fatal shooting of eight people, including six women of Asian descent, in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, is the latest attack against Asian-Americans, and it shook the nation. Unfortunately, it was not an isolated incident. On Sunday, March 21, 2021, a man disrupted a ‘Stop Asian Hate’ protest in Diamond Bar by driving through a group of protesters while hurling insults against China. Sheriff Villanueva called for zero tolerance for hate crimes in Los Angeles County, especially towards Asian Americans. He urged people to report crime by calling 911 if it is an emergency, contacting a local law enforcement agency, or remaining anonymous by calling LA Crime Stoppers at 800-222 or by visiting lacrimestoppers.org. Undersheriff Tim Murakami talked about his experience as a 4th generation Asian-American. He explained that historically, the Asian community has been very quiet. For the most part, they accept things, overlook them and move on. He urged the community to stand up as a group and realize they’re Americans, they have the right to be here, they have the right to be respected and the right to be protected. Sheriff Villanueva reminded everyone that everyone is looking for the same things in life, security and a sense of belonging at the end of the day. If you’re a recent arrival or you’ve been here for generations, all of you are welcome in Los Angeles County. We welcome you in this great nation of us, he concluded.

Did you Know? You have a silent way to reach out for help! If you need law enforcement, the fire department or medical professionals, using your mobile phone, y...ou can send text messages to 9-1-1. When you text to 9-1-1, your emergency text message will be routed to the local 911 call center who will coordinate an emergency response to your location. If you find yourself in a life-threatening situation where you are unable to make 9-1-1 calls or dialing on your phone may put your life in danger, this service will assist you and provides a silent alternative. This service was also created to assist those who have a hearing and speech impairment. Courtesy of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department #PalmdaleCares #LASD #PLM26 #AV411 #Text911

Did you know? The Los Angeles Police Department has a dedicated non-emergency line. Through that line, our PSRs listen to callers and determine if police are ne...eded. When police are not needed, our PSRs may refer callers to a different public agency or organization such as 3-1-1, 2-1-1, or the Department of Transportation. #TheMoreYouKnow If you have an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

A simple message that can save a lot of lives. Driving under the influence is against the law, it can land you in jail, and it can injure or kill you, or someone else. Don’t do it.

An OP-ED from one of our members : Someone recently asked me if and how I give back to my community. Let me tell you a short story. ... When I'm not out serving legal papers as a process server, I volunteer as a Patrol and Dispatch Supervisor for Los Angeles Shmira Safety Patrol, a 100% volunteer Civilian safety patrol in the Los Angeles area. On Friday morning, the 17th of July, at 7am, I was at home sleeping in the San Fernando Valley, when the dispatcher put out an urgent call on our radios for a suspect who was breaking into cars stealing items in the Pico Robertson neighborhood. Two local units immediately responded and requested a supervisor. Without thinking twice, I jumped up and within 60 seconds I was dressed and running out the front door of my house letting the dispatcher know that I was responding from the valley with an extended ETA. 30 minutes later I pulled up on scene and assisted the victim with filling out the necessary paperwork and witness statements. The West Los Angeles division of LAPD beat me to the location and the suspect was already handcuffed in the back of the police car. This is how I give back to my community. Please help me in my mission and donate whatever you can afford. Donate.lashmira.org TIA and G-d bless #lapd #supportthepolice #shmirapublicsafety

You've seen the video. Here's the whole story: On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, Lancaster Sheriff’s Station received a call for service of an infant not breathing. W...hen deputies arrived to the location, they found a baby girl, under 1 year old, not breathing. The family relayed that the mother of the baby was giving the baby and an older sibling a bath in the family bathtub. The mother stepped away from the bathroom to grab a towel. When she returned to the bathroom, she found the older sibling out of the tub and the baby still in the bathtub, submerged and not breathing. Deputies Diaz and newly assigned Deputy Mangan were the first to arrive to the home. They saw the baby was not breathing and Deputy Mangan immediately began performing CPR. Deputy Mangan held the infant with one hand and performed chest compressions with the other hand. After about 10 compressions, the baby began to vomit. Deputy Mangan rolled the baby over to one side, and the baby continued to vomit water. Immediately after, the baby took a big breath and began to breathe. Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived two minutes after the baby began breathing and started to work on transporting the baby. Deputies coordinated street closures and traffic blocks to allow the Fire Department and AMR the fastest route possible to transport the baby to Antelope Valley Hospital. By the time she arrived to the emergency room, the baby was awake, breathing and expected to make a full recovery. We are all human and accidents can happen at any time. Taking your eyes of your child near water even for just one moment could prove tragic. No "mom-shaming" will be allowed, but let us all use this as a big reminder to always use caution and never leave a child unattended in or around water. Babies not breathing are one of the most difficult calls a deputy can respond to. Even seasoned deputies are shaken when a child is not breathing. Congratulations and job well done to Deputy Mangan. As a newly assigned deputy, he knew exactly what to do and was able to save this baby’s life. My hero wears a badge. #LASD #AV411 #myherowearsabadge Lancaster Sheriff's Station

This brings joy to our hearts. Pictured here are some of the LAFD Firefighters who were involved in a horrific explosion emergency just blocks away from the mus...eum on May 16th, 2020. LAFD station 9 services Skid Row. They have some of the most agressive and young firefighters in the department. They are the busiest station in the nation. We wish them a godspeedy recovery and to take the time needed for proper healing. A special thank you to the burn ward for taking care of our guys.. @atom_photobomb #LAFD #Firefighter #Station9 See more
