Primary Hyperparathyroidism begins in the parathyroid glands, and it is diagnosed via blood tests to analyze a patient’s calcium and PTH levels. Additionally, a patient may be required to do a 24-hour urine collection to test for primary hyperparathyroidism; this allows a doctor to test a patient’s urine for the presence of calcium, creatinine, and other waste products commonly removed by healthy kidneys. Every parathyroid gland has one blood vessel (artery) coming in that brings nutrition & calcium to the glands, and one blood vessel (vein) that takes PTH away to from the gland to the rest of the body. As the abnormal gland gets bigger the blood vessels get bigger, and the glands that are not working will have blood vessels that shrink along with the glands. So when treating hyperparathyroidism caused by a single parathyroid adenoma, the search for the remaining normal glands can cause damage to the smaller normal dormant parathyroid glands and their smaller blood vessels, which could cause permanent hypoparathyroidism. Minimally invasive focused parathyroidectomy with intraoperative PTH testing helps to avoid hypoparathyroidism in a person that has one abnormal gland. https://larianmd.com/contact/

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common type of parotid tumor. Although it most commonly occurs in the parotid gland, it can also occur in the other major or minor salivary glands as well. These tumors require immediate medical attention due to the fact that they can grow over time and have a chance to transform into a cancerous tumor. https://larianmd.com/contact/
