Happy 3rd Day of Kwanzaa Ujima (collective work and responsibility) Ujima refers to uplifting your community. "To build and maintain our community... together and make our brother's and sister's problems our problems and to solve them together. - Dr. Karenga The #protectblackwomen movement exemplifies Ujima because we have come together to support our sisters by uplifting them in a world that continuously doesn’t protect them. We see this being actualized in the disproportionate mortality rates Black women experience when seeking healthcare and during childbirth. As well as the alarmingly disproportionate rates of domestic violence and murders against Black women- especially Black trans women. Not to mention the numerous cases of black women dying at the hands of law enforcement and their families never receiving justice. We light the green candle on the day of Ujima.
