SPIRIT OF THE POINTS Professor Neil Gumenick "Some of the most powerful points to resurrect, strengthen, clarify, and support a patient's spirit level are found on the upper Kidney meridians on the chest and the outer Bladder line on the back. These points may be conjoined with treatment of any element or organ/function." Read more: http://www.5elements.com/articles/upperkidney.html

Immunity in TCM by Andrew Geddart In Chinese, immunity translates as mian yi. Mian means "protect" and yi means "epidemic diseases." The term mian yi first appeared in Chinese medical literature in the 18th century, but the concept goes back at least two thousand years, when the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Medicine[1], an early medical text, stated, "If the body is full of vital energy (Qi), it will not be invaded by pathogens." Immunization is thought to go back more than a ...thousand years in Chinese medicine, as documented in A Handbook for Prescriptions for Emergencies, or Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang, which recommended preventing rabies by applying powder from an infected dog to the bite. The Chinese also used inoculations to prevent smallpox in the 16th century. And according to a 17th century Chinese text called Readings for Medical Professionals, or Yi Zong Bi Du, tumors are caused by weak vital energy, or Qi, just as cancer is today considered to arise from suppressed immune function. In Chinese medicine terms, immunity and health depend on both inherited, constitutional Qi, also called original Qi, and acquired Qi. While some people are blessed with hardy genes, or plentiful original Qi, acquired Qi is even more important to your immune health, and fortunately is easily enhanced by eating well, getting restful sleep, minimizing stress, and engaging in fun, healthy activities such as physical exercise. The spleen and kidney are the two organ systems most associated with original Qi and thus with the immune system. Studies have shown that patients with spleen deficiency, in Chinese medicine terms, also have low T-lymphocyte counts and lower levels of the immunoglobulins IgA and IgG. Chinese herbal treatments can return these lab values to normal. Patients diagnosed as kidney deficient by a Chinese medicine practitioner show more profound reductions in IgA and IgG, and may also have IgE reactions that trigger inflammation. Treatment with kidney tonic herbs tends to reduce IgE levels and increase T-helper cells.[2] In Chinese medicine terms, a weak immune system is also seen as a deficiency of defensive Qi, or wei qi. Wei qi is the Qi that circulates at the very surface of the skin, where it warms the skin and muscles and protects against exterior pathogenic factors. The lung system is responsible for dispersing the wei qi through- out the body, so if the lung qi is deficient, the wei qi won't be dispersed adequately, leaving us open to colds and infections. The Qi that protects the body from invasion by exterior pathogenic factors is also called zheng qi, which translates as upright qi or righteous qi. These terms are usually used in reference to a pathogen, indicating the degree of resistance to disease.
