La Patisserie Bakery

As many of you know, our bakery closed for 2 weeks+ after we learned that an employee tested positive for COVID. We are heartbroken to say that our beloved chef, Miguel, unfortunately passed away last week from COVID complications after being in a coma for several months. It is impossible to summarize the life of a person in just a few sentences, but we will try out of respect for him and to honor his memory. During the entire life of this bakery, even under different owners...hip changes, Miguel was a constant at La Patisserie, as he had been there since this bakery’s conception. Miguel was undeniably one of the most talented chefs we have EVER had the pleasure of coming across. Anyone who saw him at the bakery was amazed at the natural swiftness he worked at, accompanied with his delicate, yet artful, hand motions. He had every recipe memorized from the heart. He was truly an artist - what he was capable of was not a simple skill that could be easily learned. Since he had started working in bakeries from a young age, he was talented enough to make anything you had in mind. Not only were his pastries delicious, but they were visually stunning to look at. Besides that, he always came into work with jokes ready to tell us every day at the bakery, with the sole intention of bringing a smile to people’s faces. He would do things like bring King cake and tamales to share his culture and yummy food with us. He was a kind, funny, and gentle soul, and the fact that he will never again be a presence at the bakery seems absolutely unreal. We are still processing this ourselves and are in a state of shock. La Patisserie has done our part behind the scenes to support Miguel’s family and we will continue to do what we can. Many of our customers, since learning of his passing, have asked for ways they can directly support Miguel and his family.
