Great Oak High School

Here is the GOHS #GOkind story of the day. Emilie is SO positive and uplifting to her peers. I love having Emilie in class because when her classmates share things about their lives, Emilie visibly cheers them on. If a student says they were accepted into a college or got a job or passed a test, I can always count on Emilie to be seen on the screen clapping, sending an emoji or raising her hands to show her support and happiness for them. During this time, especially, we need to be there for each other, and that's exactly what Emilie is doing! We need more people like Emilie in the world! She is the epitome of #GOKind! Might we all be a little better each day.

Here is the GOHS feel good story of the day. This past March we had a new student move to Great Oak. It was during the pandemic, therefore she was unable to attend school and feel the level of SPIRIT. She was hired at a local restaurant. For months she quietly took her tips and with her mother purchased needed items for the homeless. More importantly, along with her mother, she would take the time to visit with them and show them the respect that they deserve. She shared with me the importance of listening and learning their story. This story came to our attention when one of her peers shared it with us. Tori has no idea who the student is. Tori did confirm the story. Might we all be a little better today, tomorrow and always. #GOkind.

Here is a blast from the past. We are grateful for talented students as well as teachers who are willing to put themselves out there. The staff comes out at the 1:25 point. Great Oak is strong.

Today we celebrate Ms Gorbacz. For the past few years she has been the driving force behind the GOHS Activities and Athletic program. We are grateful for her love and dedication to GOHS. #GOkind. This sign was displayed at the 2019 CIF Championship Baseball game where our boys won. #GOkind. Let's keep spreading kindness through out Temecula.

Class of 2021, there are important deadlines coming up for the yearbook! The early bird deadline for senior ads is October 29th! This year our theme is #GOkind. We are asking students, staff and parents to share acts of kindness with us. They should be associated with a current student. Here is one of those experiences. Last Friday, my son came into my home office crying while I was helping one of my students during Intervention. The student I was helping asked what was wrong with my son. I explained how my son has ALWAYS struggled in school. The student asked if he could talk to my son. I obliged an...d prompted my son to sit in my seat and converse with my student over Zoom. The student, Cameron, proceeded to share the story of his own academic struggles with my son. All the while, my son sat quietly and listened intently. When Cameron was finished talking, my son wiped away his tears, stood up, and stated that he was going to get back to work. My son later told me that it was really helpful to hear encouragement from someone other than his mother and father. He added that it was really nice to talk to someone whose story was so similar to his own. I am so grateful to Cameron and ALL of our students who have chosen to #GOKIND this year.
